Is Luzardo a realistic target?

What about Sandy Alcantara?  He had a down year last year by his standards.  He has 64.9MM over 4 years left on his contract with a 21MM team option.  Would Mayo, Hall, + low level prospect get that done? Would you do that?

Did you know that he had TJ and will miss this entire season?

A Kimbrel signing would tell me that we’re out on Luzardo, and Cease. Wells as a SP. Why give up one of Westburg, Holliday, Mayo, Basallo, Cowser, or Kjerstad? I wouldn’t doubt if Santander, Urias, and Ortiz, was our actual best offer.

Kimbrel as closer puts us where we were at the end of September. Wells should be able to build upon his really strong 1st half by able to go another 30-50 IP as a strong SP. I’d feel comfortable if we added Robertson too.

The time to get aggressive is at the deadline. I doubt Elias and Co. chose Flaherty over Montgomery. Seems like his hands were tied over Montgomery costing more money the rest of the way. $4 million ish. Elias just knows what to expect this deadline and to leave himself some wiggle room.

I'd say a Kimbrel signing could signal that we are putting $$ resources into bullpen. So out on the big SP names, including Gray and Nola, which we already know. I don't think that precludes us from getting an affordable starter via trade. Just need to be patient and see what happens. Plus we haven't even signed Kimbrel yet.

I did not know that.  Whoops a daisy.  I guess that’s what I get for only checking every once in a while in the off-season.  Completely missed that.

I'm not sure I follow. Why would signing a bullpen arm effect our ability to trade bats for a starting pitcher? The two moves don't seem mutually exclusive to me.

I think we have to make an attempt to understand what the other team is looking to do.  I'd say that it is extremely unlikely that Santander would be involved in any discussions with the White Sox.  If he were on their team right now, they would almost certainly be actively looking to trade him, IMO.

A deal centering around Hays for Luzardo makes some sense. Instead of being forced to trade Hays and Mullins in the same offseason next year.

I'm not sure why Miami would trade a 26-yo lefty who throws 97 and started 32 games last year at all, much less for a package centered around Hays, but if they do, it would be an incredible get.

Does this really seem like a realistic trade offer to you? Look at the age, length /value of contracts, past performance, etc. and tell me with a straight face that you think Hays for Luzardo is a realistic trade offer the Orioles to make because I can't even fathom how that's possible.

Assuming Rosenthal’s reporting here is accurate, then Luzardo is absolutely a realistic target. Elias definitely should have the assets to get a deal done if he wants to acquire Luzardo. I’m a big fan and would love to see it.

Once the Royals knew they could sign free-agent outfielder Hunter Renfroe, who on Friday agreed to a two-year, $13 million deal, they were faced with a difficult choice in their pursuit of another starting pitcher. They could trade first baseman/DH Vinnie Pasquantino to the Marlins for left-hander Jesús Luzardo, a deal sources said was discussed at the winter meetings. Or they could sign right-hander Michael Wacha, a second-tier free agent who was in some demand.
