You guys! They’re going to treat him not like a rookie having fun at spring training, but like a guy trying to make the team!

What does it mean?!?!?

Pretty self-explanatory.  Have the second cup of coffee.

What is your exact point with this line of confusing posts?

I think Mountcastle and O'Hearn go before Mayo.  Mayo could be a 35- 40 HR guy.

That’s not the point.   Mayo might bring you players in return that Mountcastle and O’Hearn will not.  So you have to decide if there is something you need more than a potential 35-40 home run guy, given the other players who also can play at Mayo’s spot.

This idea that a team can never give up a top 10-20 prospect is just wrong.  It happens fairly frequently.  But the player(s) received in exchange also have to be quite valuable, at a spot where there’s a big need.

I of course do not know more than anybody else about this topic, but I wonder if the Orioles post season performance or lack thereof is shaking things up,  and inserting a bit more urgency than previously would have been the case into a decision like this?   It is human nature to want to make up for our failures ASAP.  I remember in my college baseball playing if I had a bad AB, I could hardly wait to bat again, to make up for that poor last AB.  So I hope Holiday makes the  starting lineup as soon as possible in 2024.

Baseball America said Holliday could be a plus SS or maybe a double plus 2B.  Let’s dream on him having a great spring and making the team.  How about this lineup?

2B Holliday

C Rutschman

SS Henderson

RF Santander

1B Mountcastle

DH Kjerstad

LF Hays

CF Mullins

3B Westburg

Not a murderers row but pretty solid 1-9.

I doubt Holliday would begin the year batting leadoff even if he made the team, but he well might finish the year there.

    • I'm guessing that they could solve it this offseason if they want to. It's easy to put up a wall. What's difficult is putting in seating.
    • I think you can read a lot about the way he said things and his emotions while speaking. Just my opinion.
    • I think the opposite, Astro fans have an expectation of success, Oriole fans don't.
    • It could be a boon if you are targeting pitchers that are in a situation in which they need a one year make good deal to rehabilitate their value. Other than that,,,
    • Duh we brought in Kyle Giboson, Jordan Lyles, and Craig Kimbrel
    • The 13 game plan is guaranteed playoff tickets…….if you purchase them.  Since I assume you went through the team and chose your seat and purchased it with a card, you should get it back.   At least for me, my wife and I thought we were going to be moving 30 minutes away from our house, but instead of an hour from Baltimore, it would be 1 hour 45 minutes, so season tickets of any sort didn’t make sense.  I also figured that we would get hit with 4 pm games mid-week to start, so it all just didn’t make sense.   I am also surprised that my rep didn’t reach out to ask why.  I opted in before as a 29 game holder, in 2014, 15 and 16.  I went back to 29 games this year after two seasons with 13, and I’ve been a Birdland member since 2014.  Oh well.  We may be opting back into 13 next year, or not at all.  We will have to see.  My wife will sometimes get tickets from work, and they were always when we had tickets, so it didn’t make sense to take them.
    • That Jimmy Fallon movie was Fever Pitch.  Came out in late 2004 I think, because they had enough time to have the last scene being him and Drew Barrymore on the field in St. Louis celebrating the World Series win.  It actually was a really good movie at the time. But because the Red Sox and their fanbase became completely insufferable beginning with that comeback against the Yankees and carrying all the way through their 4 championships without so much as a loss in the World Series, it is hard for me to still enjoy it. But the underlying premise and that question of what has your favorite team ever done for you definitely resonated and certainly does even more so now with the Orioles.  And for Os fans the answer to that question is over the last 40 years, they haven't done much at all.
