Jackson Holliday 2024

I'm thrilled that Jackson is looking better than he did earlier in the season. It is extremely important that he turns into a good player especially after the large amount of players that the Orioles have traded in favor of him. Can Jackson be as good of a player as Westburg is what I want to know? Jordan Westburg is going to be an excellent player for the Orioles.

I like him in the 9 hole for now.  Lots of speed in front of Cowser and probably Gunnar soon as he heats up.  Cowser 2nd, Santander 3rd?

I like Jackson in 2 hole eventually. He can exploit the bole between first and second plus he has speed not to be doubled up. Cowser, Jackson, Gunnar, Santander, Ohearn would be pretty formidable first 5.

Jackson Holliday is 4/5 years younger than Westburg and already in the big leagues. I don’t see the logic in the comparison.

The umps are certainly trying their hardest to keep him down.

The Holliday family has a long running feud with MLB umpires it seems.

Matt Holliday's 45-game on-base streak ends with ejection

Quote

ST. LOUIS -- Matt Holliday of the St. Louis Cardinals was ejected for arguing a called third strike in the seventh inning Tuesday night, ending his National League-record 45-game streak of reaching base safely to start the season.

Plate umpire Joe West also tossed manager Mike Matheny, who had gone out to aid Holliday's cause, in the Cardinals' 1-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Holliday tossed after arguing strike call

Quote
ST. LOUIS -- Matt Holliday threw down his bat in disgust in the seventh inning of Tuesday's series opener against the Red Sox, a 3-2 Cardinals win, and an ejection from home-plate umpire Mark Ripperger quickly followed.

After the Cardinals had evened the score at 2, Holliday batted with the potential go-ahead run on second and two outs. He took called strikes on the first and third pitches of the at-bat, both of them sitting on the lower outside corner.

Following the third strike, in a similar location, Holliday slammed down the bat and began yelling at Ripperger, who quickly tossed him.

I like Westburg, but you are correct Jackson is two years out of high school and hitting against MLB pitching. His ceiling is way higher that Westburg's as a prospect. Whether Holliday becomes a great player or not is another thing, but he has the potential.

He was getting comically jobbed his first callup too.  Don't get me wrong he still looked awful but some of the called strikes were in another zip code.

    • Think I may take a nap till the 29th. Wake and see where we are. Watching this team try to hit is like watching paint dry. I see darn few competitive at bats. I think they all caught whatever Mullins had at the beginning of the year. And Adley, looks like a guy with severe jock itch trying to hit. I like Cowser but IMO if he wins ROY, it's a testament to the lackluster rookie class and not his overall play. These guys can't be this bad - this tired? Oh crap - I just looked at our starters for the series. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz 😄
    • Nice accomplishment by Aberdeen.   I did notice that Delmarva had 3 SB the other night but was caught 5 times.    I’ve never noticed 5 CS at either the ML level or the minor league level.  I just know it’s a lot.
    • Heston looked solid at Aberdeen yesterday.  Two solid hits and then a walk.  They removed him from the game again after 3 PA.   As the Ironbirds are now finished for the year I presume he will get bumped up to Bowie or Norfolk.
    • The other thing they are missing is Burnes...where is the "Ace"?   His sudden mediocrity and inability to keep runners off base and control the run game have been dissapointing and sure to be exploited the rest of the way. This scares me more than anything else.
    • I went to the game with my son yesterday.  Honeycutt had a spectacular leaping grab near the CF wall and made solid contact as noted above for 2 singles.  Looked like an exciting player to watch.   Hopefully a sign of things to come; i imagine he will be right back there to start 2025.
    • Adley got hit on the right hand June 27th, missed a game on June 28th with swelling in the hand, and hasn’t been the same since.  Even during those last 188 ABs, he’s got 27 walks to 28 K’s, so it’s not like he’s not seeing the ball or overmatched, his power and hard contact has just been complete sapped. And then I think the back issues came on top of all that. I don’t think he’s lost the ability to be a really good hitter… I’m just not convinced he’ll be right again this year. It’s not proven we can win consistently without “good Adley” either. As he went south, so did the team.
