Corbin Burnes 2024

Even with the team's situations very likely decided, I think tonight means a little something to Burnes and Cole.    The best thrive on these kinds of challenges, and Burnes is about to be maybe the best free agent starter since Cole.

Is he 80% as good?    The same on an average annual value basis?    Better?

I know this isn't the 2023 Cole but to say the best thrive on challenges, why did Cole call for his own IBB against Devers last week? The best should trust their stuff enough with no runners on in the 4th inning.

I for one am banking on the Orioles sweeping the rest of the season and the Yankees losing out.

Oh, I could go on for a minute or three speculating about Gerrit Cole's makeup, but I fear it would be undecodable.

I think wiser to watch how the upcoming competitions play out.

I do think there is a real wholesome sweetness to the "Yankee Fan Forever" kid living out his dream.

Mike Elias has done some balancing of his Bats and Arms in 2024, but he isn't there yet and the way his team has to win if it can is all his precious bats step up and beat Gerrit Cole in championship competition.     The blueprint wasn't for Holliday and Mayo to be absent from this round, but they are.

I like Last 4 Years results for debating who the best pitcher is because I think guys like Strider or Skubal need to sustain for at least a couple years.     After this year I'd probably have to give it to Skenes if his arm doesn't explode in 30 real starts next year.

I just looked it up and Wheeler-Burnes 1-2 on fWAR have matching 2.94 ERA's.    One has 757 innings and one has 758 innings.    Post-COVID, the world's best pitchers on top teams look like they give you about 190 innings.

I can think of a good, proper way to settle this.

His postseason start vs Arizona didn’t go so well last year.

He gave up 3 homers, 4 runs and 7 base runners in 4 IP.

I was looking that up too. He was in the bullpen throughout 2018 brewers run. Had a very solid first playoff start in 2021, then a not so good one in 2023 as you posted.

Postseason is a different animal, and he’s got some experience, but he’s not proven in the playoffs. Time to make that money Corbin!
