Is anyone else bothered by the fact Colton Cowser is not starting vs a RHP?

No. I’m not bothered nor surprised. It’s game TWO.

Also, to the OP I most certainly don’t want to use Jackson Holliday as a platoon player. That would indeed be a waste of his service time and development. You don’t take potential superstar players and use them as part time players. It’s the reason why they stuck with Henderson against lefties last year.

Perhaps Elias and Hyde don’t share your opinion that Cowser has more upside.  I’d say the burden is on Cowser to earn his playing time, not Hays or Mountcastle.   Of course, I do want him to have an adequate opportunity to show what he can do.

If only he had just played well for a month stretch to earn some at bats.

And how's he supposed to do that if he's not playing? What about tearing it up in spring?

Nice of you to quote me while omitting the last sentence of what I wrote: “Of course, I do want him to have an adequate opportunity to show what he can do.”  That’s not decided in the second game of the year.  I would like to see him get 50+ PA per month, but he’s not going to play every day.  Glad to see him have a good first at bat today.

Not bothered at all.  As we saw today Cowser will sub for Santander sometimes and probably for Mullins and Hays too.  And no doubt he'll start games eventually, especially if someone gets banged up or underperforms.

I'm going to choose to wait until the team is struggling before I worry about it. There is very clearly a plan for these guys so I'm choosing to give things a month and see what that plan is and how the team is performing. This year should be about winning a pennant and a World Series. Wins are the bottom line for me in 2024. The days of worrying about the best development are over. If the org botches the wins I'll start to worry.

I completely agree with this point and also with others' that this is only the 2nd game of the season.

But I also have little expectation that Cowser is going to get any sort of real run.  Hays, Mountcastle and O'Hearn will be priority plays a bit more than I think they should be.  But yeah, tough to complain when they win 100 games.
