KC has pitching and defense and that's what wins in the playoffs.  They made two great plays in the field today, their pitching was DPT.  If you're going to judge them by 86 wins, I don't think that's really fair.

i don't think their pitching was amazing. seemed like a lot of really hittable pitches got watched or popped up.

Ironically the one good defender we have, Cowser, you seem to not be too high on.

what about the Milwaukee guy? saw him yell at Devin Williams on the mound not too long ago

Hyde almost got in a fist fight with Chris Davis. And it didn’t improve Davis’ hitting. Yelling at and threatening grown men who are making millions doesn’t change much.

I didn't say it did, I said that type of manager still exists

Tell that to Belichick.  Have you seen Andy Reid on a sideline when guys don’t do as they are supposed to?  Bochy doesn’t tolerate mediocrity either.  The Mike McDaniels of this world don’t win.

Bellichik was a great coach when he had one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. His shtick wasn’t so great without Brady.

Football is 16 games where huge dudes are physically abusing each other. Yelling to fire someone up doesn’t magically make them able to hit a 98mph fastball. And that certainly doesn’t work for 162+ games. If guys can’t see that the pitch is going to be a ball, then yelling at them isn’t going to fix that. Flawed players are flawed. Coaching style can only change so much.

again, Hyde almost got in a fist fight with Chris Davis in the dugout on TV. He almost fought the entire Yankee bench a few months ago. He’s no wimp.  And yet the Orioles got swept.

I’m disappointed and found myself questioning Hyde the past few days.  But being pissed that we got swept by the 86 win Royals a year after watching the Rangers do what they did, and witnessing the Tigers sweep the Astros dilutes any argument to the point of irrationality.

In addition, acting like the O’s were the only team that kicked a$$ the first half the season and fell off post all star break is short sighted.  Five teams were on pace to win 99-103 games on July 1.  No one reached that mark.  The cream of the crop all had their fair share of struggles.

Dismissing or brushing off our rash of injuries as not having a strong impact on this team’s performance is just asinine.

Saying this team wasn’t trying or lacked fire is an insult.  Losing isn’t fun, but to confuse a team struggling with an apathetic spirit is a ridiculous take.

Someone noted the other day (SG?) that the league collectively found the hole in the O’s swing the second half, and we didn’t have the hitters to adjust is the closest rationale reasoning for our struggles.  That you can blame Elias, Hyde and his staff.  They have this offseason to make changes but let’s also not ignore that the 2023 team was made up of many of these same players and excelled in the areas they face-planted the second half of 2024 when the offense became one dimensional.

Posting over and over and over about the Rogers trade is tiring.  It turned out to be disappointing, but I highly doubt it cost us to win or lose one more game because of that trade.

Acting like Ron Washington or another older crusty manager is the answer is laughable.  I loved Buck, but he is the last of his type.

I remember Britton going to the Yanks and applauding their analytics.  Other players are coming to the O’s and are raving about ours now.  Other teams are modeling their player development after us.  Some fans crap all over it, but having been a fan during the analytical dark ages, I’m super proud of where this organization is now and feel we are in a position for years to come.  Others would rather just piss and moan and fondly reminisce in a time when in reality, the O’s player development was the laughingstock throughout the league.

Screaming Hyde should be fired, posting that we were better off with Angelos as the owner, calling Elias as arrogant… ugh.  Maybe we should bring back Syd Thrift from the grave and check on what Sam Perlozzo is up to now a days just to give some a perspective of what extreme disappointment truly feels like.

Criticizing Hyde’s pitching decisions in the series holds very little water in my opinion.

He let Burnes go 8+, which is what you do with an ace who is dealing. He let Eflin only go twice through the lineup and took him out when matchup appropriate, which is what you do with a mid-rotation guy who doesn’t really have his A stuff. And he then piecemealed his way through Game 2, which is what you do when you have a bunch of mostly interchangeable relievers who all have platoon splits against a lineup that also has fairly significant platoon splits.

All of it worked. 3 runs allowed in 2 games will be hands down the second-best pitching performance in the WC round. The pitchers and the deployment were not the problem. They were not even a problem.

The biggest mistake Hyde made in the series became even bigger because he repeated it again today. Pitching to Witt with a runner on 3rd and a base open was inexcusable. And he did it twice. It’s the kind of thing that a casual fan on a couch knows you can’t possibly do against a team like KC — you cannot let Bobby Witt Jr. beat you. And we did. Twice. They have a bona side superstar and then a few other good players. We absolutely had the ability to take him out of the game. And we just chose not to.

Beyond that, I think not having McCann bunt in the 3rd inning of Game 1 was the biggest mistake. I hate bunting as a general rule, but McCann was always going to be a massive K risk against Ragans. Taking a smaller but more “guaranteed” positive outcome seems like a better choice than praying that somehow McCann gets a knock off Ragans.

I get the critique of letting Cowser hit. I don’t think I could have brought myself to do it, and I don’t believe most managers could have either. But I get the rationale and I can’t really argue too much with it.

Cowser and O'Hearn near each other in the 4/5/6 section - some of it is the cost of doing business with O'Hearn.

And I guess RH Bats Mayo, Eloy being bad...we could have used two Austin Slaters this evening.

Cowser big edge in defensive value between the two.

I’m very critical of Hyde at times. Only Elias will know what the right decision is. I personally feel like he has the respect of his team an Elias personnel let him down. He needed a mature MOO bat and ended up with Jiminez and Slater.
