Basallo for Crochet?

I would make that deal even if I did think he would stick at catcher.

Keith Law who doesn’t sugar coat anything when it comes to prospects said this before the season.

”While his offense is ahead of his defense, he does project as a catcher, with a cannon of an arm and the hands and athleticism to handle the position; the risk is that his bat might be so advanced that it’s better to move him to another position so he can get to the majors, à la Bryce Harper, Wil Myers or Paul Konerko.”

Big not necessarily tall is what he is saying.....Basallo is much thicker build, which actually may be better for a catcher anyway. Pudge was not thin--even before roids.

No earthly way I trade 6 years of a top 20 prospect, catcher or first base, for 2.5 years of a guy who has made 17 major league starts.

Ok, but why wouldn’t you take the opinions of Law, Tony, BA, Longerhagen, McDaniel, etc. who all know how old he is and how big he is and think he will probably be a ML catcher?    Is there one source out there now who says “I think he’s going to be too big”?   Besides you, I mean.

People are banging the drum for Mayo, but not realizing that Basallo is a better fit.  And just a better prospect.  

It's not homerism to say that we have 3 of the top 5 prospects in all of baseball.

Basallo is not ready.  And yes it is homerism to say we have 3 of the top 5 prospects in baseball.   Show me one objective source that ranks three of our guys in the top 5.

Show me an objective source that has reranked the prospects since their initial lists?  The draft is July 16th.  Usually they do a reranking a few weeks after that.  We could have 3 in the top 5.  We have 3 in the top 18 currently.  It's not so far fetched.

I’ll be happy to eat my words if a list comes out with us having 3 in the top 5.  I’d bet strongly against it.
