So, who WOULD you trade?

I’d certainly trade Holiday for, say, Skenes and Bednar, but it’s tough to find a match with the big three that works for both sides.  Like I’d probably do Basallo for Skubal, but I’d doubt that would be enough for Detroit and I wouldn’t want to add in another top 100 type of guy.

In my mind, Urias, Stowers and Norby are the spare parts where we need to find a way to get value for them this July.

AND?

I’d trade anyone for the right return (except Gunnar, Adley, Burnes).

However, it’s more likely than not that there won’t be a deal that works with Holliday, Mayo, or Basallo because at that point whoever we’re trading for (Logan Gilbert, Logan Webb, even Skubal) will be of such quality that they will be considered in the “untouchable” category from the other side and we’d likely need to overpay.

I think it’s more likely that we trade Kjerstad or Cowser but even then it needs to be the right deal.  If such a deal isn’t available, Elias can likely get someone like Scherzer, Fedde, Quintana, Severino, Gray, Blackburn, etc. for a package without a top 100 guy.

Regardless of the top end deals, we should trade Norby, Stowers, and Urias for whatever we can get (at least relief help) as they don’t have spots and their value will only go down.

The Padres probably should have kept to this thought of not trading some guys.  That trade for Soto could turn out to be one of the worst trades in history.  Makenzie Gore looking like top of rotation pitcher, CJ Abram’s looking like future multiple all star type player, James Wood could be one of best players in game in couple years, Robert Hassell another very talented prospect. Jarlin Sousa young flamethrower but has struggled in lower minors at 20.   That trade changed their entire franchise along with Nationals as well. The friars did move Soto for a decent package to Yankees but not nearly the upside and talent.

No indication ever that Elias is dealing long term controlled position player(s) he sees as part of the near future which is likely all of Cowser, Kjerstad, Mayo, Basallo, Westburg, Holliday, Adley, Gunnar, Povich, McDermott, possibly Bradfield.

Full year of Burnes cost Ortiz, Hall & an end of the 1st round pick. A rental at less talent than Burnes should NOT take any of those above player to obtain anyways, starter nor bullpen arms. -- Going after long term starter via trade at the deadline is the wrong move imo and should be addressed in the offseason via Free Agency. -- Granted new ownership is likely to spend more unlike the past couple years.

The likes of Stowers, Norby, Beavers, Urias etc. should be able to bring back a couple decent rentals. -- Last year Flaherty who was a bust for us, cost us our #16/#18 prospects, Norby/Stowers are rated much higher, should net something better.

Very Wild card: What contenders has influx of pitching that could use Santander?(Mariners/Twins maybe) VERY unlikely he'd ever be realistically traded but his value is high at the moment and Kjerstad can take his slot.

No way: Adley and Gunnar

Very unlikely: Mayo, Westburg, Cowser, Basallo, Grod

I'd consider moving for a controllable ace or reliever like Miller: Holliday, Kjerstad, Povich, Mountcastle or O'Hearn

More likely to move: Norby, Mullins, Hays, Kremer, Cano, Stowers, Irvin etc....

Bradfield and Norby maybe

You cherry picked the winners. I could dig deeper for the maybes or the mehs

Grenier, Servideo, Haskin, Cook, Hernaiz, Rhodes, Trimble, Williams, Burns, Pavolony, Willems, Higgins, Wagner

I would absolutely not trade:  Adley, Burnes, Henderson, Westburg, Rodriguez, Holliday, Mayo, Povich

I would have to be blown away (e.g. controllable ace) to trade:  Cowser, Kjerstad, Basallo (no more than one)

We should trade:  at least one of Urias, Mateo or Mountcastle (to make room for Mayo); Norby, Stowers

We could trade:  anyone else in the system for a fair return

The main guys coming back need to help us win a World Series this year.  No Crochet.

You aren't getting a #3 starter with control for next year for Norby, Stowers and Urias.

Well, your best chance of getting a stud pitcher would be in the first round, wouldn’t it?

I was trying to frame the question in the other direction, about what other teams want, but that brings up other questions, none of which we can answer.

Has anybody called Mike and said, “I can’t afford Kjerstad, but I’ll give you my #13 for Stowers”? Or something like that?

We’re discussing major trades, but what about medium trades?

My answer to the question is, I’m willing to trade almost anybody except Adley, Jordan, and Gunnar.

I would love to trade Mountcastle(who isn't really very good on Defense, per Baseball Savant)I would be happy to trade Santander.

Happy to clean out the bullpen.”YOU get a reliever! YOU get a reliever! EVERYBODY gets a reliever!”

(but that’s not gonna happen.)

Id like to drop Mccann, Hays and Urias off at the foundling’s home, in a basket, with a polite note.

But that’s not gonna happen either.

Oh well, well find out in 30days and four hours.

    • The Orioles tend to like size with there high picks. This is something I will keep an eye on.
    • Congrats to Henderson and Rutschman, hopefully there will be many more to come for them As for the others, I guess we need to start at the bottom of the standings if we want every team represented: CHW (24 wins) - Crochet must be the favorite to represent the Sox, maybe Fedde but no position players OAK (31) - Mason Miller for sure. LAA (36) - Tyler Anderson.  Three pitchers so far DET (38) - Tarik Skubal, pitcher #4.  Riley Greene, maybe in addition. TOR (39) - Vlad Guerrero already in.  That's going to be it. TEX (39) - this is definitely a road block team for Orioles hopefuls with Bochy managing.  Look for Josh Smith to usurp Westburg for a spot.  Marcus Semien may make it too despite his poor hitting.  Kirby Yates also probably makes it, maybe even Nathan Eovaldi.  I don't think he'll ignore Bobby Witt for Corey Seager. TB (43) - I'd consider Isaac Paredes their best candidate and MLB may step in for that.  Makes it even harder for Westy. HOU (43) - Altuve and Alvarez are already in.  There may be some massaging with Kyle Tucker getting an OF nod and then being replaced due to injury.  Ronel Blanco has a good shot. BOS (45) - Yet another 3B is their best candidate in Rafael Devers but I think MLB goes with Tanner Houck.  Maybe they get both.  Jarren Duran another strong candidate. KC (47) - Bobby Witt and Salvador Perez will back up Gunnar and Adley.  Seth Lugo makes it. SEA (47) - Gotta be a pitcher, I dunno who, Logan Gilbert I guess.  So we're up to eight pitchers for sure. MIN (48) - this one's tough.  Joe Ryan?  Correa as SS#3?  Jose Miranda?  Does Carlos Santana take a spot from Mountcastle?  I actually think it may be Byron Buxton taking an OF spot. CLE (53) - Ramirez and Kwan are in.  Josh Naylor may take Mounty's spot.  Emmanuel Clase should be a lock. NYY (54) - Judge and Soto already in.  I'm really not sure if they get more than those two.  I would've added some pitchers a month ago. BAL (54) - so here we are, Rutschman and Henderson and ???  I think Burnes is next likely to get a spot, there is room on the staff for him.  I think Santander is next after Burnes as chances go; OF is surprisingly thin and if Tucker gets ILed out he can step in.  Westburg's gonna get snubbed for one or both of Paredes and Devers .  I don't think O'Hearn will make it and that is not a snub.  Mountcastle is the wild card; I think a spot will come down to him or Naylor.  Kimbrel does have a shot at making it as crazy as it may sound to us.
    • I'm not sure why you think Vlad shouldn't be the starter. As for Mountcastle, I'd look pretty hard at Josh Naylor.
    • Another left on left too. He just crushes baseballs.
    • Westburg and Mounty should be the reserves right? They came in 2nd.    Mountcastle should have started over Vlad.
    • Paredes will probably be the Tampa rep. He plays third mostly but not just third.  Devers is the only other third base candidate and it’s really close between the 2.  They could take Westburg as the back up at second though.  Just a matter of who they pick from Texas and if they give it to Semien. Jaren Duran should make it. Santander has a chance. Westburg has a chance. I still think it’s Burnes, Gunnar and Adley and that the other 2 position guys plus GRod and Kimbrel get left out.  We really should have 4-5 guys imo.
    • As with most things, the point of my post flew way over your head.
