Trading for Tarik Skubal

I begrudgingly would because the Orioles are in a World Series or bust window and Skubel is more of a need than Holliday. I also think the Orioles can internally replace Holliday easier than a ace-type pitcher which they don't have in the system currently.

As long as he stays healthy, which is a big if.

I agree that he is not the greatest thing since sliced bread and he certainly wasn’t at his best last night.

But he is better than what we have (maybe Burnes excluded) and probably the best pitcher that we can possibly acquire.

Agreed.  He’s probably the best pitcher we can acquire but that doesn’t mean we should pay anything to get him.   Everyone has a line they won’t go over.  Even you.

I get that guys get hurt.

I'll agree that he could get hurt his next start and miss a year.

But folks here are acting like it's a 20 to 1 shot he makes it to free agency without needing surgery.

Every one can get hurt but we aren't talking about trading some solid prospect...we are talking about trading elite prospects and, specifically, a guy who has been said to be the best #1 prospect since Harper (in the eyes of some). So,  the person in return will be picked apart and Skubal has had 2 major arm surgeries and has some mechanics that make you worry about him.

Absolutely! I don't think it should be nor have I ever advocated for an approach of Skubal or bust or Skubal (or any pitcher) at all costs.

I would like for us to make a meaningful addition to our pitching staff that can not only help us down the stretech and into the playoffs this season, but to protect us next season from a Burnes departure.

Hey guys just curious to get your input

Skubal vs Crochet - same amount of years left on their contract, one is two years younger.
Not implying Crochet should cost more just feel as though their prices shouldn’t be vastly different.
If you were Mike Elias and had to acquire one of the two, and let’s say both are as healthy as they ever will be just for the purpose of this discussion because obviously they both have durability concerns, who would it be and what is the most you’d be willing to offer?

Yes I’m a Sox fan if you couldn’t tell and yes I understand we are the worst team in baseball, bringing no ill will just wanted to chime in and get your guys’ opinions

Welcome!

Given the likely innings limit/shutdown of Crochet, I personally prefer Skubal. Both are excellent pitchers though.

Skubal is more proven, has thrown more innings and is more likely to be starting games in October.

I think they are both equal risks.

Unless Kjerstad could lead a package for either, I wouldn't consider either.

Why can’t it be Skubal vs Crochet vs Snell?

Also, if you’re not willing to trade Holliday for Skubal 1-1, then you are going to be extremely disappointed if we somehow do manage to trade him.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I respect those all. Just be aware that this is a much different from the offseason, and the Yankees and Dodgers want to buy.

Has there been any indication that Skubal is available?

I would consider Detroit engaging in a conversation about Skubal as an indication. It doesn't mean that they will trade him or that they want to trade him or that the price isn't astronomically high, but yes, it's an indication.

Unless every report is untrue, there are at least rumors linked to him and that Detroit is listening.

There isn't anything that will even suggest that the Giants are looking to trade anyone.

Is Holiday that good? Drafted as a SS and then found to not have the arm to play there; now he's a 2B. I get that the bat is special, 34 MLB ABs notwithstanding, but is he special enough to keep when you may not have a position for him to play?
