What would you prioritize as great news for the O's as of now?

  • Trading either Stowers or Norby or both (giving them a shot at playing every day somewhere else where they're needed), while losing only lower level (i.e. A, AA) prospect talent (Forret? Etzel? Bright?) as add-ons, to acquire a solid relief pitcher for the back end of the bullpen (someone the Sigbot and scouts have uncovered that's not currently on anyone's radar).

  • Watching the lineup take off after the break, back to passing the baton in games and "not trying to do too much," aka manufacturing runs. I've really missed that the past month or so.

One can dream...

Yeah the lineup one for sure. I'm tired of worrying about the offense and would love to see them destroy out of the break.

In other words, would an extension, a trade, or something else be the 'best news I could hope for now'? Be specific.  A trade of Ramon Urias for Skubal doesn't count. 🤣

I'll go with a Burnes extension.  I'm not expecting it, but that would REALLY put a smile on my face.

You nailed it with the Burnes extension, I think there is next to zero chance it happens but locking him up would allow us to focus more on rental type pitchers instead of trading the farm for Skubal.  I would rather extend Gunnar than Burnes but we have time to get that done, locking up Burnes before the trade deadline would be huge.

A trade for an ace.  That's what this team needs.

I think that is what I would be most excited about. I would add though an ace with 2-3 years" of controllability. I would also be excited about adding an impact reliever without giving up one of the top 3 guys.

Skubal, Fedde, Miller, Scott, Erceg. I mean, go get ALL of these guys. We could absolutely do it. We won't, but it would be incredible.

Burnes
Skubal
Rodriguez
Fedde
Kremer

Miller
Kimbrel
Scott
Cano
Erceg
Webb
Perez
Suarez

Irvin included in one of the trades somewhere. Nittoli and Smith DFA'd. Akin and Baker optioned.

Rotation in 2025:

Skubal
Rodriguez
Fedde
Kremer
Whoever

Yeah, something along these lines.  TTrading for Skubal or Miller this season is probably far fetched -- but the FO needs to get serious about pitching or this team will only be marginally better than the better teams of the past 25 years.

You would literally have nothing left on the farm system but fodder if you made that trade. You would have no pipeline, nothing to hedge against injury, and nothing close to a guarantee that they win the WS in that window.

Haha you're probably right, it'd be a scorched earth approach, but it's fun to think about. Though just for thought experiment's sake, I wonder just how depleted the farm would be after that. Other than Skubal and Miller, I think those other pieces could be had for less than we think.

Definitely agree with you, D, that this is the type of trade I want to see. Perhaps a similar type for a starter, too. I am allergic to reading all these other types of trades people are proposing on this board...couldn't be more tiresome nor is it a price I want to see us pay.
