Orioles acquiring Zach Eflin

I hate losing Baumeister but you make this trade 100 times out of a 100 in our situation.

On top of that, it signals Rubenstein will spend, as Eflin is due 18M next year. (Which I believe will be a single season record payout for the Os To pay a pitcher)

Great move. I thought either Eflin or Fedde was the best move for us to make and I like Eflin more because he has a better track record.

I hope he can get back to K’ing guys like last year and I wish he missed more bats but he doesn’t walk anyone and throws a ton of strikes, so he can make up for that some.

2 fantastic moves by Elias today but they need to do more.  Still need a high leverage reliever and be nice to land one other starter with long term upside.

He doesn’t strike out many batters.  I see him as a guy to cover innings (which we need) more so than a playoff upgrade.

Someone here said that the Rays threw in cash although I'm not clear how much. So on top of the reasons you stated we shouldn't be on the hook for all $18m. I agree, Eflin is a great fit for what we need.

Agree with all that.  I like Baumesiter but we had to give and, honestly, he wouldn't look as interesting to me if Elias would just draft more arms.  Nice to finally see some money spent after the Angelos mess.  I like Dominguez a lot and wasn't a Hays fan (as a player, he seems like a great guy) so I love that trade though I wouldn't care if Pache never put on an Orioles jersey.

I think for ERA+, over 100 is better than average so he’s still been league average or better 3 is the last 5 seasons according to that.

I agree he’s not a typical difference maker like Skubal/Crochet, but I think he is a difference maker to the O’s because he gives them a pretty safe 3/4 option (even if he’s not the perfect #3) for both this year and next, with upside for more. I would also like to see them add another SP and certainly a reliever as well though.

I mean, Jack Flaherty has a career ERA+ of 113 and Eflin is at 98. We'll see how it works out, he's an upgrade over Povich and McDermott.

Thanks for posting that.  I will say that I personally think the trade was pretty even, but I REALLY don't like trading within the division.

I would be more opposed to the intra-division trade if we were on the other side. I would be hesitant to help a divisional rival plug a hole on their roster and measurably improve their chances of winning a WS.

But from our perspective, there are only so many starters available, and we didn't send a single player to the Rays who is guaranteed to even play a day in the MLB.

Another move that improves the margarine. Solid #4 type SP. Better than 3/5ths of the guys that we had for sure.

But I hope that Elias has more up his sleeve (including at least one impact player).

Calling him a #4 is completely illogical.
