Sign Skubal or trade Burnes

In your honest opinion, can the O's get to the WS this year with it's current roster? If not, Elias must sign a number 1 starting pitcher today by 6pm or trade Burnes.

So, Elias just acquired an adequate #3 starter.  Would I like him to be the #4?   Sure.   

I think adding someone as a #3...or even a #2...would be awesome.   Not sure we're willing to give up the talent for that.

Sure, they can get to the WS with this roster.

They've got a very good chance to make the playoffs and once you are in the playoffs anyone can get on a roll.

This team is better than the Arizona team last year.

Would be pretty odd move to tank a season when you are leading your division and >90% to make the playoffs. I like out of the box thinking but that is a little extreme.

Elias claimed at spring training the goal of the season was to get to the WS, if that is not possible, trade Burnes before he leaves in September.

so, you are saying no more trades for pitchers are required? I dont agree, if the goal in spring training was to get into the WS another GOOD starter is required.

No, we are simply saying that if we can’t acquire another top starter that doesn’t mean we should jettison the one we have.

This team as is can definitely GET TO the WS. Can they win it? Not sure, but getting to it is definitely possible, if that was Elias’ baseline goal and step for the organization this year.

This is a wacky, crazy, thought that I 100% also had.

It won't happen, of course. Part of the reason is that we assume the O's won't keep playing badly. We also assume that we can add pieces to give us a chance. But sure, if we actually thought we had no chance then we'd trade Burnes.

I think that would make us the first team ever to have a top 5 record in baseball and be sellers at the deadline.

and I'm saying if Elias doesn't trade for a Decent Big Name Starter today, why keep Burnes? A good GM is looking at all options that is best for the team. Go ALL In or trade for 2025.
