Cowser BOMB in the 8th - biggest HR of the season

I thought there were a lot of heroes tonight--Kremer, Akin, O'Hearn, Cowser, Santander and Urias.  Guys coming back and guys coming out of slumps.  If Cowser, O'Hearn and Adley can hit we have a pretty dangerous lineup 1-9, and our big three in the rotation looks strong.

Everyone starts next week 0-0.  Go O's!

I don’t want Adley to be disrespected, but I think he needs to be dropped down the lineup. I think he’s hurt, but regardless, results aren’t there.

In the bottom of the 7th, with the yankees down 2 with runners on 2nd & 3rd, Juan Soto lined a 2 out base hit to right that should have tied the game. Instead the yankees had a ChiSox moment as their 3rd base coach held Torres who ultimately was caught in a rundown.

Even so, it’s still a one run game in yankee stadium with Judge due in the bottom of the 8th.

Up comes Cowser to lead off the 8th, 2-1 hanging slider that is absolutely destroyed 432 feet to right. Just like that the lead is 2 again and you feel like the O’s are back. Months of underperforming throw it out the window. All the injuries to the team - well we ain’t thinking about it as the ball heads to New Rochelle and Westburg, Urias and Mount are back. Talks of the O’s “strong chance” missing the playoffs and those who don’t even want them in the playoffs - as that ball was in the sky all I heard was the O’s are back baby and bring on the excitement of the playoffs.

Only weenies thought the O's were missing the playoffs.

I found it very telling that the players who weren't available for a couple of months...all chipped in tonight. Westy, Mounty, Kjerstad, Urias...and we got awakened bats from Cowser and O'Hearn. It's just one game but we got a win in NY on a night we clinched and we looked like we did in May. Confident, scoring runs, and pitching pretty well. Now we get Burnes, and Eflin in the next two and if we can win a couple more games we will have all the home games in the wildcard. You never know, crazier things have happened.I still think we are deeply flawed , but I like us with good starting pitching at home, and a new lineup.

Well, when you’re a starter and you’re not starting or playing in any games whatsoever yeah it’s pretty telling when your starters come back

Here's the bottom line.

Injuries killed us this year, yet we persevered. Now we're almost at full strength and we're in the playoffs. If Adley can figure things out and the pitching holds up, we may go deep in the playoffs.

Ah yes, the afterglow of an Orioles win against the Yankees.

It was a hell of a shot regardless of its overall importance. I do believe it gave this team the breathing room it needed, especially when it knew Soto/Dominguez were going to have to close it out.

Cowser's hitting style leads to some uncomfortable PAs, especially against changeups, but good Lord, when he gets ahold of one they are fun to watch. The height and distance of that one certainly fits the majestic description.

He’s got to lead the team in 425+ foot homers, even though Santander and Gunnar have hit many more homers this year.

I also thought the defense was very good last night. The team looked more athletic than they have in previous months.

This year has been a smashing success for Cowser.

    • Shout out to Dean. That was a nice performance in a big spot on the road. Well done.
    • Kremer's a good Gibson.    It has kind of entrenched watching Elias bolt together a good team that in the Driveline era, almost all pitchers are on a spectrum somewhere between Kyle Gibson and Felix Bautista.     If you could put 13 Felix Bautistas on a playoff staff, you would but we aren't quite there yet though Driveline and club labs are working on it every year. Even missing some time this year, since joining the rotation for good 6/5/2022: -Dean's 427.2 innings are 26th MLB-wide. -Dean's ERA is 3.85. -The pitchers with more innings and a better ERA are Gerrit Cole, Sonny Gray, Kevin Gausman, George Kirby, Zack Wheeler, Zac Gallen, Dylan Cease, Chris Bassitt, Luis Castillo, Framber Valdez, Logan Gilbert, Corbin Burnes, Aaron Nola and Logan Webb.    Just them. Those 2.5 seasons also coincide with BAL having the AL's best record. It doesn't mean I feel I have the edge if ALDS Game 5 at Yankee Stadium is Dean Kremer v. Carlos Rodon, but he's someone I enjoy having on the team.     Have to figure he is a growth mindset and skill acquisition champion considering he volunteered in podcast that as a prep, he was like 5-6 and 130 pounds.
    • I always like it when people think a manager managed a good game cause all the bullpen moves worked.
    • Agreed, if they decided to start Suarez I wouldn't complain. Through August he was on a roll and I thought he was a virtual lock to be in the playoff rotation.  Still, Kremer is pitching better right now. He also is the same or better in just about any metric now that Albert's HR rate has normalized. Kremer has better OPS splits vs both RHB and LHB, higher K rate, lower WHIP. fWAR and K/BB are basically identical. I can't think of an objective reason to go with Albert.
    • BTW, in what seems to be another recurring theme for the season, we seem to be hitting teams at just the wrong time. The Giants came in to BAL on a terrible run.  Since taking 2 of 3 from us, they've won 5 straight against contending teams Kansas City and Arizona. They have shutouts in 3 of those games and allowed 1 run in another.
    • it’s amazing how much better a manager looks when he has better players to manage.
