Awesome, maybe they can get those swings a little more upright in a full upper cut.

They better do something in this off season or there will be more empty seats on opening day in April than there were yesterday. People are going to be apathetic if they do nothing and just try to "Run in back". The last 2 seasons have brought a lot of hope and optimism. That is gone for 2025 unless some moves are made that signal they want to be competitive. Not just calling up Holliday or whatever.

Think Hyde has the injuries excuse being that Urias, Mountcastle, and Westburg all came back a week before the playoffs. So, the question is whether they were still rusty. I think it was definitely right to have them play vs the previous guys, but it's an excuse he has. 

That said, I do think he's on the hot seat in 2025.

I don’t have a problem with this. If they don’t make the playoffs next season or win a series, then that’s probably all she wrote. With a good offseason and better injury fortune, there won’t be any excuses next year.

As you would say, "Send Cody Asche into the sun!" (sorry if I botched the phrasing but you get the idea.

If they decide to keep Hyde, fine, but clearly something is wrong with the offensive strategy.  You have to take into consideration whether or not the players you're telling to take a certain approach are hard-wired for that approach, and if not, you gotta switch up your strategy.  You can't keep hoping that the human beings that are the players will conform to your statistical models, "trusting the process" and crossing your fingers that at some point, everything will prove the models correct.

      We played Santander in RF most of the year, and they aren't that different defensively.  We can play Soto there.  He gets a decent crutch out there because of the scoreboard as long as he doesn't butcher wall bounces. I'll take his .900-.950 OPS and minimal platoon splits and live with the glove.  Worst case scenario we find a RHB defensive OF like Slater and put him at DH against lefties.  But that's perfectly fine by me.  He'll get what, 10-480?  Maybe 12/500-520 if he wants a longer deal?  (I'm talking present value here, he obviously might do a Shohei deal and take a ton of deferred money, but the effective AAV of that one is 46 million right?)  Regardless I think he's got a decent shot to earn most of that contract in the first 5 years.  If he opts out after 3, we just let him walk; that's like the best case scenario for us.

      Bro trust me. I hope he was dealing with something serious. Because we are in BIG BIG trouble if he was healthy these last few months.

      I didn't say they would be. In that (admittedly, worst case) scenario though, those five games do become a big part of the legacy of his tenure here. That's just how it works, again, fairly or not. I'm not calling for anyone to be fired, I'm just saying that the entire point of all this is to win in the post-season, and if he can't achieve that, then that failure is going to dim his other accomplishments.

      1. I don't think for a second that Adley Rutschman doesn't care or is not a "winner." He was a big reason the culture changed at the major league level. 2. The bat speed chart that SG showed tells me its something more than wear and tear. 26-year old catchers typically don't wear and tear down in July, especially after the team was already keeping him fresher than in years past by DHing more than the past. 3. I don't think it was an "injury" per se, but something was bothering him physically. He lost strength, stamina, and just looked worn down the second half of the season. I'm not going to speculate what was going on, but there's definitely something more than normal wear and tear. 4. Saying that, Elias and Hyde may not know because if the players keeps saying he's fine, it's not like they are going to scan his body or make him take blood tests. Basically, I don't think Elias is "lying" to anyone when he said he thinks Adley was just worn down. I don't think Elias or Hyde knew why Adley was not performing so they went with the worn down excuse. As pointed out, much older and bigger catcher like Perez were just fine in September/October. So what does all this mean for the future? That's really the question. No way Adley just forgot how to hit in the middle of a season or lost bat speed because he was "worn down". Maybe it was a combination of things this year on and off the field that limited his effectiveness, but I also think the mental part of the game was getting to him as his struggles continued for longer than anytime in his life. For some reason, he took way too many hittable pitches which made him one of the worst "in the zone" hitters by run value. Rutschman had a -13 "take runs" in the heart of the plate and -14 "take runs" in the shadow. He was outstanding in the chase and waste areas but those take runs in the heart and shadow show that he's not aggressive enough on hittable pitches. We saw that many times this year including in these two games where Adley watched very hittable pitches on 2-0 go by or fouled off. The question is why? I doubt it was because he was tired or worn out.

      Adley himself said he was working through some things, which is clearly code for "I was hurt."  He had a documented low back issue that avoided the IL but caused him to miss a couple games, and was hit on the hand while catching which coincided with a massive rest-of-year slump.  I am not buying that he wasn't banged up.

      Adley had no injuries. Elias had said, Hyde had said it and Adley himself has said it. I get it. It’s a defense mechanism. Hoping that a player is hurt when they suck. And I didn’t say frat boy. I said fat boy. Which he is. You shouldn’t overweight as a 25 year old superstar athlete.
