I never, ever heard of them doing that before.

For a SP, either they make him miss a start or they don't issue a suspension.

Has anybody ever heard of them doing something like this before?

That's BS- but if it's a 5 game suspension, how is he NOT gonna miss a start? Do they have a 6 man rotation all of a sudden?

Somehow I doubt an opposing pitcher would have gotten away with a 5 day non-suspension had they thrown a 95 mph fastball at Pedroia’a head. But if I’m an Angels' pitcher I’d put it on my to-do list just to find out.

Now that they've added controversy to the game, even more people will watch the Yanks-Sox game that day. Beckett's bad behavior provided MLB with a perfect opportunity to squeeze a few more dollars out of their marquis rivalry.

I don't get the point of a suspension in which the player never misses a game. Why even go through the trouble?

My understanding is that Beckett also forfeits his pay for those five days, which will probably costs him somewhere north of $300,000.

I still want to see Pedroia drilled though.

If they do forfeit pay pitchers get screwed in MLBs suspension scheme since their suspesions are usually longer so that they do miss a start.
