Could the Angels be after Tejada again?

I am not so sure about that. All those guys who be dealt have replacements behind them. Stoneman doesn't like to trade prospects but adding Tejada and Lopez to his struggling offense may put them over the top.

The Angels and Stoneman have been getting ripped by the fans and local media about holding onto their prospects and not moving on Manny, Tejada and Konerko this offseason. From the recent comments from Stoneman, I believe he now realizes he screwed up and the Angels have to go get a big bat.

I think we could get Kotchman, Wood, Napoli or Mathis and a pitching prospect for Tejada and Javy. The Angels have Morales to cover Kotchman, Tejada would block Wood and either Mathis or Napoli are expendable.

"You're taking their top set up man, their top prospect overall and one of their starting pitchers, all of whom have great upsides. The only way you're getting all that is with a mask and a gun."

Vab, I'm not so sure that is unreasonable. A RELIEVER, a mid to back of the rotation starter right now, and a top prospect for an MVP who is the best at his position and comparatively on offense vastly superior to his counterparts.

We'd be trading an MVP, yes, we'd want their top prospect and it should be prospects. If they don't want to do it, fine, hold on to Tejada. With all due respect, the only way their getting Tejada for a freaking reliever, a starter with upside (we know how they pan out), and their top prospect (no guarantees), is with a mask and a gun.

I'm not one to overvalue O's as so many do on this board, but this ain't one of those cases. Yes, we ain't getting much for Bedard, Javy, etc., but for a BONAFIDE star like Tejada you do get a windfall or you say 'no thanks.'

The Red Sox asked for Kendrick, Wood, Shields and Figgins for Manny.

Now, Tejada is more valuable than Manny and we would be including Javy..They get to keep Kendrick and replace him with Kotchman.

The deal breaker may be needing to get one of those 3 pitchers but tough on them. They need to give something to get something.

They probably keep Lackey as he is signed cheap and has a experience. Weaver or Santana make the most sense to be dealt.

Tejada's best OPS+ was last seasons 133; Manny has exceeded that number for the past eleven straight years. He is not more valuable than Manny but he is a lot cheaper.

Not to mention that Tejada is (should be) available and Manny is not at this point.

Tejada is a SS, not a glorified DH playing in the OF.

Tejada is younger and cheaper.

Tejada is much better defensively at a key position.

Tejada is more valuable.

BTW, over the last 2 years, Tejada's WARP is 9.7 and 7.8....Manny's is 6.3 and 6.1..Tejada has been worth 2-3 more wins a year.

Whatever trade proposals you make, it can't include players who if traded would just create additional holes. Consequently, Shields is definitely off the table. And Morales seem to be earning the 1B job. Wood and Kotchman would definitely be the starting pieces.

Well put, we laugh off our own posters when they propose deals for Tex and MCab and Dunn, but don't include one of our top prospects. Now, we're going to trade our best player (and widely considered the best SS in baseball not playing 3B) without getting their best prospects??? No way. Wood not only should be in the deal, I think he almost has to be.

Let's also not forget one thing....As of right now, Tejada has not gone public with any trade request...He also is not coming off of a dissapointing second half of a season with B12 questions over his head.

The offers we get now should be much better than the offseason and the ones in the offseason were not that bad.

What difference does Tejada's position in the field make when he's hitting in the line-up?

The advantage that Tejada has is with his salary you can also sign another player for the same amount that Manny gets alone. You need that second player to exceed the offensive production that Manny gives because Tejada can't do it on his own. The difference between the two looking just at offense is significant.

Miggy's last six years (OPS+) 112,112, 122, 117, 126, 133.

Manny's last six years (OPS+) 185, 162, 190, 160, 152, 156.

Tejada is much better defensively, relative to his position. However, at shortstop for 2005, "The Fielding Bible" ranks the following twelve shortstops higher than Tejada.

1. Adam Everett

2. Jack Wilson

3. Rafael Furcal

4. Jimmy Rollins

5. Neifi Perez

6. Clint Barmes

7. Jason Bartlett

8. JJ Hardy

9. Juan Uribe

10. Juan Castro

11. Bobby Crosby

12. Orlando Cabrera

Take a poll of 30 GM's and ask them who would they rather have, Manny or TEjada....How many do you think would say Manny?
