Turgeon, truthfully, sounds like a good hire. But you can't sell anyone from Texas A&M basketball as a blockbuster here. Expectations are super high for basketball. We tolerated a little less from Gary because of who he was and what he did. Many of us didn't forget. We were willing to let it slide. But those days are over. Expectations are raised and excuses aren't going to be tolerated.

KA raised the expectations himself with the football search. I've come around on Edsall. But this basketball team needs to figure out a way to win without much in the way of talent, outside of Stoglin, Howard, and the freshmen.

That's the thing: this has gone down almost EXACTLY like the football hire.

-Coach leaves in a controversial manner.

-Early candidates established both by fan rumor and media speculation. An early "leader" emerges due to a tenuous connection to the university.

-That fan/media leader quickly is acknowledged as the school's choice. School makes an effort to sign them relatively quickly.

-The leading candidate rejects the offer. Fans go crazy.

-The school scrambles for other options, and the name that comes out is from a smaller "major" program at a school known for a different sport.

-That candidate accepts, to a collective groaning "Who?" from the fans. The school does its best, through the media, to convince the fans that this was the best person for the job.

It's eerie. And as you are saying, John, it doesn't speak well for the person in-charge of both searches.

It also makes me wonder what happened when Anderson spoke to Mike Leach about the football job.

Leach didn't reject UM. It was the other way around.
