After seeing the deal Pujols got, and figuring what a younger Fielder is likely going to get, I'd guess the chance of Fielder being an Orioles are now less than zero. Right now, I'm more excited about the prospect of seeing Pujols play in Baltimore this season when the Angels come to town.

The Cardinals have said they did not plan on going after Fielder. Remember they have Lance Berkman to play 1B. Jimmy Rollins is a possiblity as well as Beltran.

As for the Orioles, it's the team you don't hear that usually winds up with the Boras player. Nobody knew the Yankees were in on Tex until literally the last minute.

IMO they are still in silent running...

Good call on Rollins. That seems to be a perfect fit for them.

Beltran as well. They could sign Rollins and Beltran, spend 80-90 million total and be fine.

Unfortunately we have to compete with the Marlins, and the Marlins are prepared to sign stupid contracts right now.

I don't think Trea is really that off right now.

It is very obvious what the Orioles level of interest is...If Fielder's price tag is low enough where you can say, well this is a relative bargain in the grand scheme of things, they will be involved.

IF the marlins are out of it(and I do not believe they are) and if teams really don't want to go more than 5 years, then perhaps the Orioles can get him for 6/132-140.

I don't think that will happen and I think there will be at least one team that goes crazy for him but if that doesn't happen and teams are scared off by his weight and NL teams don't want him, then I think the Orioles could be in play.

Except we're not the Yankees, and nobody wants to play for us without the money being there, and with Angelos in charge it won't be.

C'mon Shane, you are better than this. Don't you know that Angelos has put a top secret mandate out to sign Prince Fielder? ;)

Was watching Philly Sports network last night and they were interviewing one of their beat writers and the guy was saying 100% Rollins back to Philadelphia, just a matter of how long the contract is.

I think that's likely...HOWEVER, St Louis COULD now get into the bidding and maybe they just offer more. IMO, they offer a better chance to win because of the divisions.

This just in: The Orioles are out on Prince.

When asked why, DD said that it is because Prince in not a homogeneous enough first name. Taylor and Dana would just feel emasculated standing next to a Prince.

Good point. I expect us to be targeting these guys:

Jamey Carroll

Kelly Johnson

Casey Blake

Pat Burrell

Jamey Wright

His sister Princess is more our style.

Sorry if this has already been posted. It seems like Fielder is not receiving offers over 5 years.

It comes down to this then... if I'm the Orioles I look at whether I want to invest 6-7 years on Fielder. I probably would, but I'm not sure with his weight issues. There is the DH though, so like Pujols, an American League team would probably be best for him (hence, Seattle).

    • Well I sort of disagree here. You said guys have been bad to questionable. I think that’s wrong. I just think a few guys have been awful and that has really hurt us. I would absolutely give Washington more time. Brade and Kane are well liked but doubtful they want to play them much right now. A trade should be considered if things don’t improve.
    • Yeah, I'd rather keep him over Soto.  I mean Soto can't start.  Yes Soto was dominant at times out of the bullpen but he was also gasoline on a fire out of the bullpen.  I would rather pay Suarez $4 or 5 million, knowing he can start or pitch in the bullpen than Soto, knowing he can only start and is liable to melt down when needed most.
    • It is funny how much Hays (the pre-2024 version anyway) matches the type of player they'll likely look for. I doubt that reunion happens though.
    • Weird thing about Suarez is that MASN had this being a 2 year deal when they talked about him back in April. ”The Orioles made another smart move with Suárez by signing him to a two-year contract in September. They knew what they’d ask from him and how it could contradict, and they didn’t want to give him any reasons to resist.” https://www.masnsports.com/blog/another-look-at-how-suarez-came-to-the-orioles

    • Elias is refusing to spend money that Rubenstein has made available.  Do you have any sources?
    • Outside Hamilton, I can't really think of any areas or invidivuals outside the line that have really stepped up.  Humphrey and Stephens have played okay but it certainly hasn't offset the complete zeroes that Eddie Jackson and Marcus Williams have been.  I don't think you want to pull Hamilton off SS even though he can handle deep zone assignments fine, because he's essentially a linebacker that can cover wide receivers and there's too much value in that in the box.  And I think that Roquan/Simpson look lost in pass coverage because the safeties behind them are playing like butt.  Besides Roquan wasn't ever really a great coverage safety, he was kind of okay at it but he was never like a Lavonte David or Fred Warner there.   I'm starting to wonder if we need to either trade for a FS and/or start giving Ardarius Washington more snaps.  He certainly doesn't look worse than Jackson/Williams at this point in his limited playing time.  In general i think safety is an undervalued position so we're likely to get good value in trade.
