I wonder if we could get Loney?

I have thought he would be untouchable but I wonder if they could move him and put Kent at first or even try someone like Ethier at first.

I wonder if they would rather trade Loney than Kemp??

That's what I asked earlier... but the consensus is that Loney is the untouchable one.

Would love to grab Loney. Could you imagine? The Orioles getting a quality first baseman? Seriously?

Loney is = to or better than Kemp. Plus they aren't going to experiment with a new 1st baseman if they are serious about going after a world title. Loney has many gold gloves in his future.

Garciaparra was good enough to block Laroche last season.

They were both a year younger, and Nomar hadn't yet fallen off a cliff offense wise.

Here's the way I look at it, if I'm the Dodgers: I just won 83 games, and I want to win at least 12 more this year. What will do that? Kemp and Loney full time is a start. Jones adds 5-8 wins depending on how optimistic you are. Bedard is 5-7 more replacing Loaiza, and he also looks good at the top of the rotation with Penny in a playoff series.

But to get Bedard I want to sacrifice as little as possible from the team that won 83. If I really do want to win next year, and I have a chance to get Bedard without giving up any big pieces from 83 wins, I'll do it.

You really think the addition of Jones and Bedard by themselves is worth 10-15 extra wins next year? Maybe you're right, but I'd have thought it would be maybe half that.

They need to get creative if they want to win now. Kemp at 1B Young at 2B? Their biggest problem is Pierre in LF instead of Kemp.

I heard that about a year ago they decided to cut loose.....footloose

Funny you should mention that. I was thinking about that movie when I wrote that. And, amazingly, that was the first movie I ever saw by myself - at the Elkton Movie Theater on High Street. For 99 cents.

In, like, 1984 or whatever.

What a cast: Bacon, Chris Penn, Lori Singer, John Lithgow, Diane Wiest. But who names their kid Ren? And what's is short for? And why do they play chicken on tractors? And whatever happened to Shalamar ("Dancing in the Sheets")?

The Dodgers won't deal Loney for Bedard. From my perspective they value him more highly than Kemp and its looking more like they won't deal Kemp either. I doubt they will go with Pierre in LF. I think he'll be dealt. If they don't land Bedard, I wouldn't be surprised to see them deal Furcal and go with Hu.

Which team is more likely to win?

Loney Kemp Furcal LaRoche, Pierre Jones Kemp/Ethier with a rotation of Schmidt?, Penny Lowe, Billingsly, Loiaza; or Loney Kemp Furcal LaRoche, Pierre Jones Ethier with a rotation of Bedard, Schmidt?, Penny, Lowe, Billingsly, Loiaza? You can't just trade Pierre, he has no value with his contract, you are stuck with him.

Kuroda still can't make up his freaking mind.

"We are at the point where the only thing I can say is his decision is very close," Urbon said. "I think the best thing for us to do right now is to wait.

"He is at the point to where he can make a decision. But that decision has not been made."

Gotta love that agent speak...

I still dont understand why Kuroda has more value than Bedard does. Havent teams here seen enough of Bedard to make a easy resolution that the man can pitch? Kuroda hasnt proven that he can pitch in the states. It just baffles me. That we have to wait for other teams to decide on signing a pitcher that has never pitched one pitch in the Major Leagues.

    • Cowser has had a lot of HH contact and nothing to show in recent weeks - still, the production has been down now for a bit and would be nice to see some results.  Though the extended scuffles of Hayes and Mullins still make him a pretty clear regular at the moment imho.
    • Yep, haven't been following the Rays closely this year, could not believe Randy's stats when MASN put them on the screen last night. Unpredictable game, that's for sure
    • I'm glad to see Westburg back in the lineup. I should've gotten off of my butt and drove up to the game today.
    • Hopefully, these guys have a better June than they did in May. Cowser .580 OPS O'Hearn .653 OPS
    • Because "potential" tends to be more indicative of future results than a small, recent sample of success.
    • I don't get why everyone on here is in love with "potential" instead of "results." I remember last year when Means was rehabbing in the minors this board was saying he'd maybe be a bullpen piece. I was thinking, "Do these people not remember 'John Means day'? The guy knows how to pitch and gets results. I trust him WAY more than Grayson. Sadly Means got hurt and didn't get a chance to pitch in the playoffs. When the playoffs roll around in 2024, if Suarez still has a 1.57 ERA and .99 WHIP, I'm giving him the damn ball way before I give to a guy with a 3.53 ERA and 1.33 WHIP who has a career 27 ERA In the post-season.  Don't misunderstand me, Grayson has a TON of potential but he's reminding me a lot of Kevin Gausman at this point in his career - a guy who repeatedly got our hopes up as being a dominant TOR guy but never was for us. Suarez has a 1.2 WAR this year in 34 innings. Grayson has a 0.5 in 51 innings. If we had to pick a top 3 for the playoffs tomorrow, I wouldn't put Grayson as the #3.
    • I hear you on the 19 year olds. I don’t buy it as an absolute. There is data both ways. COVID is still a factor too. Depends on the kid. Each player is judged on their own merits. Bobby Witt Jr. was 19 when drafted. 🤷🏼‍♂️
