So I guess you're in the camp of just giving Hamilton a blank check? Glad you aren't in charge.

No, but i'm not in the camp of don't go after a big name free agent just because it might be costly. Whats money to a billionaire? It's not like under the current system the guy won't make money based off the TV Contract or anything. It's not like signing a high priced free agent would make him broke or anything.

Would just like to see some guts for once.

"No guts, no glory."

That is very gray. Is there a cap on what you're willing to spend on Hamilton? How do you know that the O's cap isn't around where yours is and Hamilton wants more? Bashing the front office just because we are out on a 31 year old who wants Prince Fielder money seems a little barbaric.

He may have his issues, but the guy has earned what he's seeking. Why stop him? Jayson Werth sure as hell wasnt worth near what he got. Baseball has a lot of assinine contracts, to boot it's not my money so I don't care too badly if rich owners get screwed on a bad contract or two. They're not hurting for money.

You still haven't said what the max you'd be willing to give Hamilton is. Still sounds like you're willing to give him a blank check.

Why isit either or? Just because someone is willing to go 4 or 5 years, doesn't mean giving him a blank check. To offer 2 years, you may aswell just say your out.

How do you know the O's aren't willing to go 4 or 5 years? You or Johnny or Orange or none of you have ANY idea what the O's are willing to give, and what Hamilton is going to get.

I never said I did. But you keep insinuating we'd offer a blank check. I've told you my cap would be 5/125. How's that a blank check? If your expectations is to get a 2 year deal, or pass; then you may aswell save the time, and just proceed to plan B. Some team will go 4, to close the deal.

We have all seen reports that Hamilton wants what...7 years around $100 million+? I wouldn''t see the O's offering 7 years or that amount of cash. They would probably do something between 3 or 4 years in the range of $45-60 million, but i'm sure Hamilton qould bypass and look for a bigger deal and only take something like that if it became the leading offer(which I don't forsee, someones gunna take a chance on him, they always do)

Here's my way of looking at signing Hamilton. After 2013, Brian Roberts' contract is up so that's 10 million, plus the money saved by not resigning Reynolds..That's more than $18 million saved, I don't see why that money can't be used for Josh Hamilton. We basically got nothing from Roberts last year so that $10 million was thrown away so it's not like we used that part of the budget to field a winning team. The only reason I can think of that this wouldn't work is if Adam Jones' contract was given knowing that this money would be freed up.

So my question to you is why continue complaining about us not getting Hamilton. The O's may have offered 5/125 and Hamilton said he wanted more. We don't know.

    • This posts wreaks of someone who has no idea what the cost of relievers are nowadays. Which is, of course, no surprise that you aren’t informed. Now that said, I don’t have an issue if you take someone out..I asked that very question. Who do you take out or what do you not acquire in favor of keeping Suarez?
    • You always have room for another high leverage guy.  And Akin has an option left according to FG.
    • Yea.  I feel the same way.  I really do not care strongly one way or another.  Sure, I think it's kind of ugly.  I also think HR's came pretty cheap before.  I like the exciting defensive plays it fosters and of course the random triple & odd carom make for some fun and unique moments.  But I don't think it helps or hurts the team in any substantial way short of helping out the pitching a little.   I sure don't think the players are changing their approaches.  If they keep it as is, that's fine with me.  If they modify it some way, that's fine with me as well.  It does seem like there is some opportunity for some unique seats down there by modifying it slightly.  When I first saw it, it almost appeared like a construction Phase 1.  That might be reasoning for pushing it back so far, allows them some flexibility in the future.   I also don't buy that a Free Agent RH hitter is going to care at all about the wall.   They are getting paid regardless.  I'd think that 1-maximizing payday 2-playing for a winner 3-finding a location that suits your family would be your priorities and your long-term stat line would be very close to the bottom of your list of concerns.
    • His "ability to play RF" carries about $0 value
    • Yeah but if you think most of this money is going to upgrade things that are wrong or need improving, such as the ones @accinfo lists, I think you'll be disappointed.   They will be for new features, each one designed to create revenue via premium seating or premium "experience" areas or attractions that bring non baseball fans to the park to spend or sports betting related things. I'm not saying they won't fix some basic things that need it like upgrading the sound system or improving the point of sale technology.   I'm sure they will.   But the focus is going to be on the new attractions which are all designed with revenue enhancement in mind.
    • I’m not a lawyer … perhaps @Frobbymight know. Loss of income, future revenues? Damage to their franchise….Even with MASN the Orioles lost a ton on annual tv revenues
    • Congrats to the offense on playing a heck of a game. Lamar was incredible to watch, especially the play when the snap ended up on the ground and he had to run away towards the sideline and still found Likely for the score. It's very frustrating to me that the offense HAD to play so well because of the poor coaching and abysmal defensive play.  It's odd to me that Harbaugh still messes up timeout usage after being a coach in the league for over 15 years.
