Just watched a replay of the game and Mitch Williams makes an excellent point in the 8th inning. After Tillman strikes out Sogard for his 4th consecutive and clocked at 94 mph Williams comments that Tillman shouldn't come out because of the pitch count when he's actually getting stronger as the game goes along. He had no stress except for the 6th inning and only threw 15 pitches in that inning. He was throwing 88-89 at the start of the game and 93-94 by the end. The way he was going through the order he was the better choice to go back out for the 9th.

Hands down, one of the best starts Tillman has ever had. Everything was consistent from start to finish, no super elevated pitch count innings, only the one run and a career high in strikeouts. It's a shame he didn't get the win, but the A's almost found themselves in that boat with Parker, who'd been on a role. It was a good ole fashion pitcher's duel. You love it if you win, hate it if you lose, but admire it regardless.
