BAL, PIT, & KC: Winners?

I lump these three together because you have once proud franchises; each had winning years in 1971 and from 1975-1980. All three went on extended losing streaks and have rebounded this year. Pittsburgh's losing streak extended for twenty years. We all know 2012 was the Orioles first winning year after fourteen straight losing seasons. KC has seventeen losing years out of eighteen from 1995-2012.

The Pirates have already clinched a winning record and the Orioles and Royals are five and six wins respectively from joining them.

So, what's the big deal, Soprano? From the obscure trivia department, the last time all three finished with a winning record was....

1982.

In the thirty-two seasons from 1982-2013, Baltimore (2,438-2,655, .479) will have twelve winning years; Pittsburgh (2,349-2,744, .461) has seven, and Kansas City (2,362-2,734, .464) will have eleven.

"Big Game" James Shields helped move the Royals a step closer to a winning season this afternoon.

He tried for the complete game, but after giving up back-to-back singles to start the 9th inning, teammate Greg Holland came in and struck out the side to closer the door on the Indians.

The Royals have joined the Pirates in having a winning season in 2013.

And the did it in grand fashion ...... with 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, Justin Maxwell hit a grand-slam home run to beat the Rangers.

The Orioles joined the Pirates and the Royals last night by beating the Blue Jays.

They (the Orioles) added their 83rd win of the season by beating the Blue Jays again tonight.

In 2010 or 2011, who would have thought that all 3 teams would have winning seasons in 2013 ???
