I know I will get some hazing for this:) but I couldn't attend Opening Day for the Orioles this year. First time in 7 or 8 years I missed Opening Day too...

So I am going to the Nats vs. Braves Opener today. Anyone else going?

Go Nats! 3-0! (The Mets are so very awful....)

This is the Orioles game thread section, not the Nationals.

Should be a really fun summer for the Nats. So long as they are healthy, Rendon/Harper/Strasburg establish themselves as the best young trio in the sport.

Game Threads don't say Orioles only....:) just saying. Keep in mind even Tony was thinking of expanding to a more MD-DC board. Control the hate:) go Nats!:)

Like it or not, this is an Orioles message board. I have no idea what Tony plans to do with the site and I mean no offense to him when I say this, but I come here to talk about the Baltimore Orioles. I would hate to see this board start covering the Nats and I think most users would agree.

I can't even listen to the radio anymore. It used to be O's talk and now it's Nats. I can't stand it.

I don't have a problem with talking about the Nationals ...... ON THE MLB BOARD.

In fact, I started the 2013 ongoing Washington Nationals thread last year:

http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php/131312-2013-Washington-Nationals

However, there is no reason why the Nationals (or any other team besides the Orioles, for that matter) should be shoved down Orioles fans' throats in the game thread section and/or on the main board.

    • You bring up a great observation about the Lightning. They are in the same city and are not a small market. I would argue that the reason why is because they have managed to capture the hearts/attention of the marketplace. IMO you don't do that by allowing your fans to carry constant anxiety about who's going to be here this year and who will be gone. Of course there is roster turnover in all pro and college sports. But there also has to be some stability and confidence amongst your fans/customers that the org is as invested as me (Joe Blow the fan) and not indifferent (won't do what it takes for us/team to win it all).
    • Is that the best model to pattern after? The outlier? Elias does not and should not ever have to go "all in on one season". I've never been sure what that realistically looks like other than a fear mantra that was created by someone who is so attached to the notion that the O's must retain every prospect in order to fulfill some kind of fan fantasy of having an "all homegrown team". Rubenstein should and MUST offer the necessary support to Elias in order to sustain winning. When I hear "hands off" I hear uninterested and uninvolved which is not what I have observed from Rubenstein who has been at EVERY SINGLE GAME that I have attended this year. "Hands off" to me seems to be the opposite of Rubenstein and not desirable at all. IMO great orgs/companies/teams need great leadership from the top. Also, there can realistically be no repeat of the Duquette years. That org/administration never had a firm foundation and the success was always built on a house of cards. It always felt we arrived at competitive/good by accident. Lastly, I have NEVER EVER said anything close to "prospects be damned". But I don't it will serve us will to be dogmatic about any singular approach. True genius is in the ability to adapt. We will have a limited ceiling like (Tampa Bay Rays/Guardians) if we are going to limit ourselves to being a prospect only/homegrown team.
    • I don’t think they pay him 22M.  2/35-3/48 type deal. Leas AAV for more years.
    • He really seems like good trade bait. Enough talent to get a veteran reliever, not enough talent that we need to keep him.
    • I would be shocked if Elias traded Basallo, Mayo, or Holliday.   I don’t think it’s happening.  I’m tempted to say zero chance of that happening.
    • I mean, yeah, in theory. But if you don't think he's subtly or not-so-subtly steering his clients towards free agency with years of material/arguments that make it seem like the smartest idea (and he would know, look at his track record, etc), then that's pretty naive.  Like, yeah, if his client is adamant about something, sure. But if they're on the fence, he's a master manipulator.
    • I dont think it matters in the playoffs. You need a little bit of luck in a 5 or a 3 game series.
