I'm glad we got KC

I'm just relieved that Britton bent but didn't break tonight, and we didn't have to agonize over playing a Game Four or a Game Five.

Lots of rest before the A.L.C.S., now.

I feel confident in the Orioles' chances against either of these two teams, especially after they turned it up against the Tigers after having finished the final two weeks of the regular season with mediocre play (particularly the defense.)

They said on MLBN, we'll BOTH have time to set up our rotations any way we want. Even Big Game James can throw Friday. I'm sure we'll throw Tilly out there.

Gonna be a great series!

KC is probably happy to be where they are after 30 years away from the postseason. This may be a positive, they will play relaxed, but it also could be a big negative, they will play unfocused.

During the 1985 World Series, George Brett had stated that in hindsight, he felt that the 1980 Royals team was really kind of just happy to be there (the World Series), especially after having finally defeated the Yankees in the A.L.C.S. after having previously lost to them three straight years in 1976, 1977, and 1978.

I think that you're right though. It could go either way (relaxed and at ease because they are essentially playing with house money, or unfocused because of their relief in having already won a playoff series.)

I think KC is definitely the tougher of the O's possible opponents. KC's s pitching and speed both worry me. KC starting pitching, and a BP that is probably equal to the O's, held the top team in MLB to a measily 6 runs. And KC they stole bases pretty much at will. So despite Joseph's somewhat gaudy 40%+ caught stealing rate, I think he, and Hundley especially, will have trouble with a tean that stole 153 bases during the season and were caught only 36 times.

I agree. Detroit has nothing on the pitching KC ha; mainly due to the bullpen of course, but KC's rotation is no slouch either. The biggest factor however is the momentum. KC, after beating Oakland and smoking LA, is riding very high. Actually they finished the regular season as strong as anybody. They have so much momentum that they're getting home runs now. KC could very well be a buzzsaw.

Here's the good news; four days off means KC might cool down just enough to lose their edge. This will be a more contested series than either of the ALDS.

Momentum is the next days starting pitcher.

The Royals will be a very formidable opponent. They have terrific pitching up and down.We historically don't hit Shields well, and Ventura completely shut us down during the season. Then theres Vargas, Duffy, and even Guts who pitched well against us. Their pen is probably as good or better than ours. They run like hell and defend all day. I think this will be a very tight series and it could go 7. Fasten your seat belts.

Scares me a lot.

    • I'd like to point out that Mayo has made one error since May 11th at 3B and has 2 errors in his 25 games at 3B.
    • I have no confidence in Cano in these situations.
    • I don’t know how much it is from not trusting Kimbrel, or him only being comfortable coming in a clean inning because he’s been doing it his whole career, or just not wanting to push him too much regular season. But a big factor just from an effectiveness point of view is that Kimbrel is prone to throw a ton of pitches. Feels a lot less reliable that he can get 4 outs before running out of gas and his effectiveness falling off. Kimbrel’s age and earlier season minor injury woes, and apparent large benefit from more rest are also distinguishing factors. Bautista also throws a lot of pitches of course, but he’s so unhittable it hardly seems to matter.  But he also blew out his arm while carrying a very high workload and a lot of multi-inning regular season appearances, so it could also simply be that the Orioles are recalibrating toward not wanting to risk their best RP that way in the regular season, especially with all the other considerations.
    • This is the lineup I want to see more times than not. I still think Mullins should play 4-5 times a week though so a rotation of Mullins, Santander, Cowser, and Kjerstad would give everyone enough playing time and keep them fresh.  Although I think Mayo would move up in the order very quickly.
    • Yes possibly, 3 months ago he had ROY potential, hows that look now. I'm a big a homer as anybody but pump the brakes a little.
    • I'd pack their bags for them if that was available.
    • I rarely go wow, but WOW!  That's a pretty hard no way. I've made myself known that I'm not trading Mayo and I'm certainly not trading him for a reliever and I'm certainly not adding in Kjerstad. The real question is would we trade Kjerstad for Miller straight up. That would be an interesting thought. Miller could absolutely blow out his arm at any point and Kjerstad is going to be in a middle of a major league lineup for a long time.  I'd have to think about that one long and hard especially knowing we will have Bautista back next year and McDermott could be an impact reliever if given a chance too.
