Carfado: GM's Actually Took Vote On Shift Ban

Wonder if anyone has ever studied TV ratings over the length of the game? Like, if you start off with a 5 share (just making up numbers here), what's the average rating in the 8th? How does that change if it's a close game or a blowout? It wouldn't surprise me if the number of eyeballs on an average weekday baseball game declines by 50% or more from start to finish, but that's just a guess.

Such a study may affect bottom lines... perhaps a reason we haven't seen one. Is there a way to speed up the flow of the game without necessarily trying to reduce the time of a game? Perhaps a "Pitch clock" that requires a pitch to be thrown within X seconds. Other options?

Wouldn't any successful attempt to speed up the pace of the game necessarily reduce the overall time of the game? Unless it was coupled with some other changes, maybe like increasing offense. Or at least the frequency of offensive events - hits, BIP, etc. Also, wouldn't advertisers want this kind of information about viewers over time, and use that as part of their negotiations over price of ads? I don't think the individual broadcasters are able to prevent ratings information from going public.
