Is it ok to give up on Miguel Gonzalez?

The O's didn't save 5m by DFAing Gonzo. The had to pay him 1.2m+ in termination pay and they had to replace him for a little more that 500K. So they saved about 3.3m.

I don't understand why the O's didn't offer him a major league roster spot after he was DFA'd and option him. An incentive based contract would have insured that they were not paying much to an injured pitcher.

Its going to be interesting to see what the White Sox are paying him.

So if he pitches well against Toronto you almost certainly think he gets another start, correct? And who do the White Sox play after Toronto? The plot thickens.

Frankly if he does well I think the Orioles deserve to look like morons as I think they gave up on him way too quickly. But we shall see.

I can only imagine how bad the boards are going to meltdown if Gonzo pitches well against Toronto and then against us this coming weekend.

If this is right it only goes more to what I've been saying. They already had a guy who fit in nicely and would have saved themselves more money by not signing Gallardo.

Let's say he has a good start against the Blue Jays and then gets torched in most of his other starts. Would the Orioles still be morons?

I believe he is going to pitch as effectively for the White Sox in 2016 as any pitcher on our squad not named Tillman. If I am wrong, then obviously the Orioles were right. We shall see. And he cost us a lot less than Gallardo including a 14th pick.

Could be I overstated the case for Miggy...love the Cold Stone Killah...lol.

Me too, man. I am definitely rooting for him. He was really nice to my friends and I and posed for photos when we ran into him and Steve Pearce at the Green Turtle. Hope he is productive but not good enough to make the O's look terrible.

What I did find odd was that in his first game with the ChiSox, even though he gave up 5 runs in 5 IP, he was hitting 91 on the gun. IIRC he wasn't hitting more than 88 or so in ST. How did he get that extra zip back on his fastball? He still gave up 11 hits, so I think he's toast, I thought it was just odd he regained some of his velocity all of a sudden.

    • They’ve added a handful of additional receivers in the UDFA class https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/rumor-mill-ravens-undrafed-free-agent-tracker-2024-nfl
    • Didn't see today's game in it's entirety but I will say this.  I feel 100% more confident with Mateo playing second and turning  a DP rather than JH right now.  JH will be fine there.  In time.   But even forgetting his hitting, D wise he just isn't there yet.   And yes I know the metrics say he is fine.  But to me, using the eye test, he looked very shaky fielding and throwing,
    • I like Kevin.  He is constantly improving.  My only beef is that he doesn't seem to understand that a foul ball isn't always out of play.   A ball can be hit foul, but still be in the field of play.
    • My preferred day 3 WR would have been Troy Franklin, but he apparently had a bad combine on positional drills (which might have been because he had the flu.)  And he got picked by Denver pretty early.   Devontez Walker is kind of intriguing.  He's 6'2", barely.   A bit on the skinny side but ran in the mid-4.3s.  His route tree is pretty limited, mostly short quickouts/slants and go/post routes. But he's really good at the deep routes.  Sort of a discount DK.  He's reported to have good hands and good deep ball tracking ability as well.  We have to see how that translates in the pro game.
    • Adley looks way more energized and McCann is veteran catcher who is good defensively and handles the pitchers well.  Doesn't really make sense to wear Adley out when the O's are using him at the top of the lineup.
    • Just seems like a more controlled swing from the right side, shorter, flatter.
    • He was signed in the Covid year when they only had a 5 round draft, which is why he was undrafted.  Was showing promise bur tore his UCL in 2022.  Pitched a little last year, this is his first full year back.  Nice to see the good outing.
