Early December 25-man

Hey all, where do you think the opening day 25-man roster stands as is here in early December? It might give us a better clue as to what the team's next step is.

Here's my take:

C - Matt Wieters, Caleb Joseph

1B - Mark Trumbo, (Christian Walker)

2B - Jonathan Schoop, Ryan Flaherty

SS - JJ Hardy

3B - Manny Machado

LF - LJ Hoes, (Dariel Alvarez or Junior Lake)

CF - Adam Jones

RF - Nolan Reimold

DH - Jimmy Paredes

SP1 - Chris Tillman

SP2 - Ubaldo Jimenez

SP3 - Kevin Gausman

SP4 - Miguel Gonzalez

SP5 - Vance Worley

CL - Zach Britton

SU - Mychal Givens

RH - Brad Brach, Dylan Bundy, (Mike Wright)

LH - Brian Matusz, (TJ McFarland or CJ Riefenhauser)

The guys in parentheses are your bubble spots. I keep saying it but it's true, the team needs a left handed bat or two at 1B/OF. Also, obviously SP, but unless Gonzo is traded or something, there appears to be only room for one, which would push Worley to spot starter/long man.

Thanks for putting together. Clearly LH bat is the most glaring weakness, and we probably need two of them. One a corner outfielder. One starter as well, and I'd feel better if we had another proven type in the bullpen (be it O'Day or another, lesser but still solid reliever), but you're right that Worley may be pushed into that role. Seems the FO is pretty bullish on him being able to fill it if he's not a starter. If he is in the 'pen, I see him as more a Hunter type than a long man. Not the depth we've had in the last few years.

Sorry to break it to you, but Trumbo is our 1B.

And that's fine, provided our only other significant additions aren't Venable, Alvarez, and various filler in the bullpen/rotation.

I'd like to see us get one more everyday player in the OF. I don't mind a platoon at one spot, but not both.
