...Robbie Erlin, who has made starts for the Padres this season, was not so fortunate.

Padres' Robbie Erlin: Will undergo Tommy John surgery

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Erlin has a partial tear in his UCL and will undergo Tommy John surgery, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Erlin strained his elbow after being promoted to the rotation and was placed on the 15-day DL in late April. With an MRI Monday revealing the tear, Erlin now faces a 12-18 month recovery window before he'll be ready to return to the mound.

Uncle T.J.'s having a busy week:

Athletics' Chris Bassitt: Will undergo surgery Friday

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Chris Bassitt (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery on Friday and will miss the remainder of the season, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

Bassitt ends his season after only appearing in five games, totaling a 6.11 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched. Jesse Hahn and Sean Manaea figure to replace the 27-year-old in the rotation for the remainder of the season.

This has been an interesting year for suspensions:

Braves' Hector Olivera: Paid leave extended

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Olivera (suspension) had his paid leave extended again Wednesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Major League Baseball needs more time to investigate the situation surrounding Olivera. The length of time extension was not immediately announced, but regardless, Olivera could face a lengthy suspension after the investigation is complete.

In related and unsurprising news, the Braves have Olivera on the trade block. I don't see how anyone would want him until this mess is over.

We have a new starting catcher on our all-DL team!

Reds' Devin Mesoraco: Moved to 60-day DL

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Mesoraco (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Saturday.

Mesoraco will undergo shoulder surgery next week to repair a torn labrum and it's possible he could miss the remainder of the season. With the recovery process expected to span roughly four months, at the minimum, the Reds will shift Mesoraco to the 60-day DL to free up a 40-man roster spot.

...speaking of catchers, we're starting to see some depth building there.

Indians' Roberto Perez: Out 8-12 weeks after undergoing surgery Friday

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Roberto Perez (thumb) underwent surgery on his fractured thumb Friday and is expected to miss 8-12 weeks, Zack Meisel of Cleveland.com reports.

A thumb injury is never a good thing for a catcher, and it appears that the surgery was major enough that it will keep Perez out for a significant chunk of the season. This timetable has him in line to rejoin the Cleveland Indians at some point in July, but this could change depending on how his rehab process goes.

I don't know what's going on with this situation, but it sure seems unusual:

Dodgers' Erisbel Arruebarrena: Suspended for remainder of season

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Arruebarrena was suspended for the remainder of the 2016 season due to repeated failures to comply with the terms in his contract, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports.

This is the second such instance for Arruebarrena in the past year, although last time he was able to settle a grievance and return after missing only a month. We'll see if the shortstop can work his way out of this suspension, although this much trouble in addition to the missed game time doesn't bode well for his standing in the organization going forward.

Yeah I know it's a big stretch -- but if I'm including suspensions, I should include team suspensions too right?

Twins closer Glen Perkins is expected to be back June 15th at the earliest, which pushes him past 60 days from his DL date of April 13th. Another solid arm to the pen, but he probably doesn't even make the 25-man for the all-DL team at this point.

Welcome back to the 60-day DL, Josh Hamilton! :new_beer:

it's been a tough season for the Angels on the injury front:

- C.J. Wilson is targeting a June return and was tranferred to the 60-day DL. He hasn't pitched this season.

- Tyler Skaggs suffered a setback on his rehab due to bicep tendinitis and there is no time table for him. He hasn't pitched this season.

- Andrew Heaney still may or may not have TJ surgery, but either way he's probably seeing the 60-day soon.

- Andrelton Simmons was put on the 15-day DL with a torn ligament in his thumb and is scheduled for surgery. He's expected to miss two months.

Dodgers' Brandon Beachy: Leaves team's spring training complex

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Beachy (elbow) has left the team's spring training complex in Arizona and gone home, the Dodgers' official site reports.

There hasn't been any official word from the club, but signs would seem to point to Beachy having more issues with his arm.

Lots of updates, but we'll headline them with this one:

ROYALS LOSE MIKE MOUSTAKAS TO TORN ACL FOLLOWING COLLISION WITH ALEX GORDON

The news from Sunday's collision has gone from bad to worse for the Royals. Alex Gordon and Mike Moustakas collided chasing a foul ball, and both players suffered a long-term injury.

First, Gordon was placed on the DL with a broken bone in his hand earlier this week. He's expected to miss 3-4 weeks. Then on Thursday, Moustakas had to be placed on the DL with a torn ACL

Brutal. That has to be one the costliest collisions in history. Gordon and Moustakas are two of Kansas City's best players and they managed to take each other out chasing after a foul ball. Here's the video:
