Red Sox's Pablo Sandoval: Results of first MRI were "pretty bad"

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) said the results of his first MRI were "pretty bad," and he is on tap for a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews in the near future, WEEI.com's Rob Bradford reports.

Obviously with him in line to get a second opinion, things aren't looking good, and his comments Friday confirm that. His left shoulder injury may require surgery, and amid that possibility he also stressed to reporters that a report that he wanted to be traded was untrue, not that he'll be in any shape to take the field anytime soon. Travis Shaw's hold on the third base job appears to be getting stronger by the day, and Sandoval should be considered out indefinitely.

What a horrible contract by Boston -- and we saw it coming. "HA HA" :P

Athletics' Eric Sogard: To undergo knee surgery

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Eric Sogard (knee) is set to have surgery to remove loose bodies from his knee next week, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.

Sogard was initially placed on the disabled list due to issues with his neck and shoulder, but a recent knee injury will extend his stay on the DL. Hickey is reporting that Sogard's procedure has to do with loose bodies near his patella tendon and noted that Sogard "hopes to be back for the second half of the season." Although Sogard's neck and shoulder issues are no longer a problem, his knee injury is set to sideline him until the summer.

Tough blow for the Athletics, a team with positional depth problems.... not that Sogard is that good, but their team OPS+ right now is 75.

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Timetable pushed back again

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) has a groin strain and will not be able to throw his scheduled bullpen session Saturday, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.

The shoulder injury he is attempting to rehab is still the top concern for Ryu, but a groin strain popping up in the rehab process certainly clouds any previously estimated timetables. He is 11 months out from shoulder surgery and as his timetable continues to be pushed back (he was originally scheduled to be ready for the start of spring training), it's hard for fantasy owners to realistically bank on any significant number of innings from him in the foreseeable future.

Again, not an injury, but I'm adding him to the list. Silly Chris.

And he has no idea how it got into his system.

Maybe he did a Raffy and injected some Candian B12, thinking that would be safe.

And 80-game suspension is essentially a 90-day DL stint. ;)

Yankees' Branden Pinder: Diagnosed with UCL tear

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Branden Pinder (elbow) was diagnosed with a UCL tear in his throwing elbow Saturday, Brendan Kuty of the Star-Ledger reports.

This is the situation Pinder was hoping to avoid when he was placed on the DL earlier in the week with what was initially called an elbow strain. Neither he nor the team have commented on whether Tommy John surgery will be necessary, but even if it's not, Pinder figures to face a fairly lengthy recovery timeline. Expect more details to emerge over the next couple of days.

How comes every pitching prospect the O's have drafted in the past couple years always has major injuries in the minors? I'm starting to wonder how this always

happens to the O's? Is it the minor league pitching coaches or the program the O's put the prized prospects on? Maybe it's the same people who trained and

evaluated Jake Arrietta and couldn't make him better in Baltimore.

Time for better developmental pitching coaches.

Phillies' Charlie Morton: To undergo season-ending surgery Monday

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Charlie Morton will undergo season-ending surgery on his injured hamstring, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

The veteran right-hander was placed on the disabled list Sunday with what was ruled as a left hamstring strain, but an MRI performed a day later revealed a tear in the hamstring, according to Stephen Gross of The Morning Call. Morton is scheduled to undergo the season-ending surgery Monday, meaning that two of the Philadelphia Phillies ' initial pieces of the rotation are gone for the year. Adam Morgan is expected to take Morton's spot in the rotation beginning Friday.

Tough break for a rebuilding team. Morton was supposedly going to eat a lot of innings.

In news that doesn't really surprise me, Boston gets addition by subtraction:

#RedSox make it official: Pablo Sandoval expected to miss remainder of 2016 season. He underwent left shoulder surgery today.
— Jon Morosi (@jonmorosi) <a href="

One of the worst signings in recent memory.

Josh Ravin, already on the DL with injuries suffered from a car accident, apparently tried the easy route to rehab:

Dodgers' Josh Ravin: Suspended 80 games

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

MLB has handed an 80-game suspension to Ravin (arm), effectively immediately, for a positive PED test, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Ravin wasn't expected to be back on the mound until June due to a Feb. 29 car accident in which he broke his left radius bone. In the aftermath of the ban, he released a statement, which included an admission that he "came down with severe case of intestinal flu, strep throat, was put on antibiotics and lost 20 lbs in seven days. To speed up recovery, I took supplements I thought would help. Unfortunately, I was not as careful as I should have been, and one of the supplements contained a banned substance ... that showed up in a drug test during spring training." While admitting wrongdoing is the honorable route, he now won't be available to pitch until early August.

Elias Diaz avoids the dreaded visit from Uncle T.J., but he's still down for a good long while.

Pirates' Elias Diaz: Will undergo elbow surgery

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Elias Diaz (elbow) will undergo surgery on his right elbow this week, although the Pittsburgh Pirates are confident that there is no UCL damage, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
