Duquette added the following in that offseason:

Chen' date=' Betemit, Hammel and Miggy[/quote']

Yes.

Chen, Gonzalez, and Hammel were all major contributors to the starting rotation in 2012, and all were acquired by Duquette.

Wasn't Chen being scouted by the MacPhail regime prior to Duquette taking over?

I don't know.

He was signed by Duquette.

Every non-losing season of the last 19 years has been under Dan Duquette's direction.

I believe that MacPhail set the table.

Duquette did an excellent job seeing to it that everybody ate.

-Typo. My point stands. He took over at the end of 2011 and 2012 we were in the playoffs. I wonder how many moves he made in that off-season?

Lots. I'll just list the main ones.

Chen.

Gonzalez.

Hammel.

Ayala.

Betemit.

In season:

McLouth.

Ford.

Saunders.

Pearce.

Thome.

There are a bunch of smaller things I'm not listing. I think the biggest thing to realize is that every single starter who pitched in the postseason was acquired by Duquette.

I think Dan did a heck of a job in 2012.

But that was 2012.

Well, I was just answering twindenter's question. If he thinks Dan just inherited MacPhail's team and got lucky enough to win with it in 2012, he's wrong. There were so many roster moves in-season that year my head was spinning. MacPhail never did that. Now, it's SOP in Baltimore under DD to have a constant shuttle between AAA (or AA) and the majors.

As to this year, I already gave my opinions in the OP.

If Wright, Wilson, Mancini, Walker, and Sisco are the future then I think we need to take out a second mortgage.

So you would be OK with Dan Duquette trading all 5 Players to the Yankees for Pineda or Nova?? Your blank statement puts the worth of all five at that level.

Of those you mentioned Sisco is the one who has a good chance of being a starter. We also have some other guys who the potential to be mlb starters who are currently in our minors. For Example: Ryan Mountcastle and Hunter Harvey.

A starter like Caleb?

You think that coming off a 93 loss season in 2011 Dan was told to forgo long term strategies and win now?

I think he said when he came that there was no five year plan. That the Orioles would win right away.

And well thought out opinions too.

    • JD Martinez would be a more of the same kind of acquisition. He is not an impact bat and he is a periphery (around the margins) piece at this point. Why not set the bar higher and sign Alonso? Acquiring Pete Alonso allows you to move on from Mountcastle and put Mayo (where he belongs right now) DH. It also allows you to move on from O'Hearn.  Alonso gets everyday ABs and Mayo does. Those two things to a large degree help solve the lineup imbalance against LHP. I know Alonso will cost real money. But again who are we paying? The money is there. It's time to start using it (if we want to win in October).
    • Your full quote said to use him as a DH for 100+ games. If you are worried about him being covered through his injuries - how can you assume he wouldn't be injured at the end of the season, going into the playoffs?
    • Here’s an exercise… it’s the postseason and the bases are loaded. The Santa scenario. Who on our current roster would you rather have up over JD Martinez?  Same fact pattern as Santander’s AB.
    • I think the title of this thread told you his status
    • Why did you pare down my quote about it being for the post season and not just 162?  People, always so quick to clown someone. Lmao. Damn. At least use my whole quote bro.  If you think that we don’t need at least one proven playoff bat then that’s ok. My point is, that we have enough 1B/DH options to carry JD through his ups/downs/injuries over 162 for his experience, leadership, and playoff experience.  You can disagree, but quote me right.
    • It's kind of amazing to me how no one knows Suarez's free agent status. I've heard it both ways. He's Schrodinger's baseball player.
    • Since JD Martinez has a career OPS of .950 in the postseason across 12 series and 151 plate appearances, I am sure our FO will have no use for him.  A veteran player who has experienced a lot of postseason success rarely helps young teams get to that next level.
