Exactly. It seems like this is some people's first full season of watching baseball and they have yet to realize it's a streaky game. Particularly with CD.

Or worse yet they throw out all common sense and reason and somehow expect that simply because Davis signed the huge contract he will now magically never go into his usual funks he goes into historically. Just defies common sense.

His on base percentage is still .351. Anyone that says he doesn't have a clue at the plate...doesn't have a clue. The separation between his batting average and on base percentage is awesome and something every hitter on the club should strive for. He's prone to slumps, just like every other hitter.

BA isn't that important. As for being among the best, CD is first in fWAR among AL 1B, Manny is second to Donaldson as an AL 3B. Manny has been much worse than CD over the same time span. If he doesn't pick it up soon he can forget about the MVP.

Now go back and read your last sentence.

Davis gets a pass because he's by far the most popular player on the team. But Davis is the ultimate feast or famine player. Yeah, he walks. But he SO's a lot more.

He gets a pass because he's a productive player. Yes, he's a feast or famine player, but who cares? He does much more good than harm when all is said and done.

Lately, CD seems to have a problem with FB's a smidgen above the belt, middle in. Pitchers are wise to these slumps, and will keep going back to those weaknesses.

CD goes through these a lot during the season... and when he does, he does look lost. The funny thing is, he's had them since day 1 with the team. CD thrives on bad pitches.. but rarely gets them when he's always behind in the count.

Patience.

He doesn't have a clue right now. It wasn't a general statement, just saying he looks completely lost at the plate, which he is.

It's eerie how similar his numbers this year are to Adam Dunn's career numbers.

Chris Davis 2016- .237/.349/.491, 123 wRC+

Adam Dunn's career- .237/.364/.490, 123 wRC+

Adam Dunn's batting average completely fell off the cliff after his age 30 season. He never had another season with a BA over .220. Are the Orioles in for a similar decline in performance from Davis?

Well, to be fair, Davis is playing gold glove defense at first while Dunn was a total butcher.

So at least we can afford Davis's recent decline thanks to his outstanding glove.

Hopefully he gets his stroke back soon.

I didn't see Davis bat his first two times where he struck out but did when he was up with the bases loaded and he actually displayed good patience and worked the count and only swung at strikes. He just popped up because he couldn't square the bat on the ball. Who really looked lost today from what I saw was Trumbo who swung through some pitches right down the heart of the plate and the deemed to be 93 mph fastballs with little movement. I was actually astonished at some of the pitches the Ray's starter had the guts to throw and was getting away with that game. It actually seemed to me like he was catching them by surprise and they weren't expecting such hittable pitches!

Pffft, please. July 6th-July 16th, on base percentage is .429. If you want to do July 9th-16th, it's .500.

How can someone get on base at such a clip if he doesn't have a clue?
