A pretty enthusiastic take on this year's draft.

It was new info to me that Sedlock's NCAA success this spring was driven in part by switching to the 2-seamer.

I think that change helped make him our pick. It reinforces for me a viewpoint I already held - I believe our brain trust thinks Camden is so HR friendly that HR prevention is a must have pitcher attribute.

We'll accept poor to mediocre K/BB rates from pitchers with GB tendencies more than most other clubs. This also means FIP and other ERA predictors are never ever ever going to think our pitching is any good.

Really encouraging stuff. With the possible exception of Stewart, it really seems like we've been drafting well the past few years.

Could that be attributed to DD? I'm not 100% familiar with the changes that took place in our scouting department when he came on.

Pretty big changes. New scouting director, new scouting supervisor, two new national cross-checkers (one specializing in pitching), and several changes in area scouts. Some changes in methodology, too, I believe.

I like the optimism. As for prospects, do we have a guy who can take over for Hardy after he leaves (or take over at third if we move Machado over)? That's a big worry for me.

I concur with the worry. As far as I know, the organization doesn't have anything resembling a middle infield prospect - assuming all the comments about Mountcastle having less than 1% chance of staying at SS are true.

Drew Dosch and Adrian Marin.

There is also the *super small* options in Corban Joseph or Sharlon Schoop (yeah, you read those names right), moving from second to short, or even third if Manny goes back to short.

A very long way to go, I realize, but one to keep an eye on to see if he can develop is Alex Torres, 5th rnd pick, glove first SS.

If the drafting is so good, why will the Orioles be ranked amongst the worse minor league organizations for talent? This year's draft has some promise, but I think it might be time to face some realities when it comes to the talent being brought into the organization.

If the Orioles would be willing to spend significantly in the international market, the talent level would most likely vastly improve.

Trading away Tarpley, Brault, Heim and Hader, losing first and second round picks in 2014 for signing Ubaldo and Cruz, having Connaughton play basketball, injuries to Harvey and Klein, and trading away competitive balance picks haven't helped. I'm only referring to players drafted during Duquette's tenure, not other guys traded from the organization who were from the MacPhail regime.

You left off losing first round picks for signing Gallardo and Davis.

You forgot Torsten Boss!

Seriously, I might add Jean Cosme. More than held his own in A ball at 20 (traded for Despaigne).
