Basically he says the Orioles may only be hours away from making a change, although I don't think he has any info that we haven't already heard. He mentions Girardi, Dusty Baker, Davey and Trembley as possible replacements. Here is the portion about why he thinks the O's job might appeal to Girardi.

"Here are the reasons why the job in Baltimore might appeal to Girardi: The team is willing to spend money; the O's have a good core of players, including young pitchers Erik Bedard and outfielder Nick Markakis; the Cubs' job, which Girardi may or may not covet, might not be available for the foreseeable future; he knows the team and the division well; he is aware of the fact that the area could be absolutely baseball-crazy, if given a winner to root for; he would probably get a lot more decision-making opportunity than he would in other places, because more than any manager since Baltimore's Ray Miller, he could have Angelos's backing."

Please not Baker!

I will repeat this::

Please not Baker!

this is what really scares me about the managerial change. He's out there, he is a "name" with past "success." I can see it coming a mile away.

Girardi - awesome

Trembley - best guy to pick if you are going to stay in the org

Davey - Cal Ripken ain't coming out of that hole, niether is Alomar, or Brady. He's old and has health problems, this is a pipe dream at best and might not be a great option.

Baker - again, Before God, Jesus and all the bones of the saints I say NO!

Well' date=' it wouldn't shock me if Baker was the manager...the FO has done things much more stupid [/quote']

No they haven't. Seriously, this would be the dumbest move they have ever made. It would kill the core of pitchers we have been nursing for the last 6 years. No No no no no no no.

No no. You can't have predicted Belle's condition. Baez was a bad signing, that happens in baseball to every team.

Signing Baker could simply undo everything the team has worked for with the pitchers over the last 3-4 years. All of the building and working could literally be undone because of Baker.

Landing us right back at square one.

Before everyone gets all giddy like Girardi-crazed schoolgirls, read from the same Olney article:

Here are the reasons why the Baltimore job wouldn't appeal to Giradi: The team has been a loser for 10 years; it plays in the AL East with financial monsters Boston and New York, reducing its margin for error (and Girardi passed on what he apparently viewed as a tough situation last fall, when he didn't pursue the Nationals job); the O's might need a general overhaul, with Miguel Tejada getting shopped around; Girardi need only call an old teammate -- ex-Oriole manager Lee Mazzilli -- to ask about stuff that can go wrong with the organization.

Girardi may not be the guy who replaces Perlozzo, but it would make sense for the Orioles to at least talk to him and find out if he's interested. If he is, Girardi could be the right guy for Baltimore.

Girardi is clearly the ideal candidate, assuming he's interested.

Baker is a nightmare scenario.

I really, really don't want anyone them to hire anyone within the organization, as anything more than interim coach. We need some fresh blood.

I also really hope the next manager is not a "nice guy", we need a real hard ass to light a fire under these underachievers.

If Dusty Baker ever manages in an Orioles uniform, there will simply be no use in ever cheering for, following, or otherwise paying attention to the Orioles ever again. Contraction would be the best possible scenario. Ray Miller, Phil Regan, and even Ted Turner would be better choices. And I'm not even exagerating one iota.

    • Loved seeing Eloy's enthusiasm at joining the team over the summer, but yeah it was way past time for this.  I didn't realize he still had options remaining, so I guess he's still around for a 'break glass in case of emergency' moment - hopefully he's done for the year though.  And declining the option is beyond a no-brainer, so that is in all likelihood it for Eloy as an O.
    • I've been fired up every day since my divorce hearing on 11/12/19. The third best day of my life. In all seriousness, life is good. Remember the 15 straight losing seasons? They're not perfect, but today is a new day and yesterday doesn't matter. Westburg, Urias, et. al. have returned, our BP is stronger and we have our best 3 SP set to go this series. We're 6-4 versus them this year, including taking 2/3 last time we were in NY. Pick your heads up a little bit. Will they win the WS? No, I don't think so. But guess what??! They've got a chance! I was at the game Sunday, and I'll be tuned in to every inning of the last 6 games. LFG.
    • I don't think there is any way to be a sport's fan and not require some form of therapy. For me, OH is my therapy center. If you invest any part of your being in a sport's team, there is no prescription for tranquility. You just have to come to a strategy that best allows you to follow your team. Mine for the most part is to walk away and turn it off. Wife gets mad at me because I won't keep watching a game when we are losing or playing poorly. Says I'm not a real fan. She's probably right but I don't view watching poor performance of any kind as a good use of time. I also don't get too much into second guessing or modern statistical analysis. Not interested in coulda - woulda - shoulda and though I am awed by all the data, it's just too much for me to digest and use. I let you all do that for me. If I think it's over the top I may say something but mostly enjoy the read. In this way, OH has helped me get through the down years and the good ones too. And it's also great in between.  So, in some fashion, we are all addicted to a game - a team. The trick is to remember this is entertainment - not life. And that can be hard. Now beat the Damn Yankees and make me feel better cause the way you've been playing is killing me 😄!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • This was the correct choice, glad to see them make it.
    • How about..." we wont win another game in the regular season"?
