He threw over 100 pitches.  He's not going to be available for the next 4 days at least.  He'd just be taking up a spot on the roster.

It has nothing to do with "being dissed" and/or how well a pitcher has pitched in his most recent game. Tyler Wilson was sent down after pitching 6 solid innings the day before, also. The Orioles had back-to-back games in which their starting pitchers could not go beyond one inning. Duquette has had to scramble like a madman the past few days to get as many fresh arms as possible for the Orioles. If you are a marginal pitcher (and/or a marginal position player) and you have options, you are going to be sent down, up, down, up, etc........ especially when the team is dealing with the extraordinary circumstances that they have been dealing with lately.

I'm sure the reasoning for these moves are communicated to the players.  It's not like they just see the transaction wire and that's it.

Just those that do not pay attention to how this 40 man roster is/was assembled. 

The ten day DL allows for a pitcher that will miss one start due to an ailment can be replaced by an able-bodied individual.

The ten day DL also allows the same to happen for a positional player that has a slight ailment instead of being placed on the day to day list.

The Forty Man roster already has 15 players that have options unless they are on the Dl.  To not use these players to the ball clubs advantage during the 162 game schedule makes for a losing season.  The Twenty-Five man roster currently has ten players with available options.
