Fangraphs 2017 top 50 for trade value - maybe no Orioles?

Each year fangraphs ranks the top 50 players in terms of trade value.   While they've only done 31-50 so far, they've already published a list of who dropped off the list from last year, and that list includes Manny (who was 11th last season).    It's not due to poor performance -- Bryce Harper also dropped off the list -- but due to "impending free agency."

If Manny's off, I suspect there will be no Orioles on the list.

Of course not.

Well, it could be.    67% more time to use the player, at a cheaper price than for the other 1.5 years.   So, maybe twice as valuable overall, or close.

By the way, the players on the list are almost never actually traded that year.     So far as I can tell, the only players from last year's list who were traded in the following 12 months are some prospects who hadn't played in the majors yet.

Alex Bregman comes in at 38, for all the people who think we can trade Manny for Bregman and 3 other prospects.

It all depends if they want to win those two World Series...

Odor to Baltimore. He and Profar have fallen off, I say we get Profar and represent the Netherlands Antilles in style.

It's absurd to suggest there are 50 guys who would bring back more than Harper.

That list losses all credibility with that.  I see what they're saying, it just makes no freaking sense.

Here is an explanation from the HM thread:

The biggest fallers, as always, are the great players who are getting ever closer to the end of their contracts. Yes, every team in baseball would love to have Harper, Machado, or Donaldson on their roster, but all three are eligible for free agency after next season. And while teams would absolutely give significant packages of talent to get these guys for even a year and a half of performance, it’s difficult to get a team to surrender a player good enough to make this list for a guy who could leave after next year. Harper nearly made the list anyway, given how good he is and the value a team might place on getting him comfortable with their environment before free agency began. In the end, though, I couldn’t find anyone who would surrender the kinds of players who made the end of the list for a guy who could leave after 2018.
