This Off Season Feels So Hopeless

The Orioles aren't going to add any big names.  They arent going to act quickly.   They have clear definable needs but won't be able to appreciably fix them. Any move that actually moves the needle for next year's team won't do so in any appreciable way and increases the chance that Orioles won't be sellers at next year's deadline when they need to be selling on impending free agents yo avoid a dark age.

Normally right before the end of the World Series I am starting to get excited about what the future will bring.  I just can't this year.

And by all accounts it should be a very exciting off season.  The Marlins will be selling big names.  There should be a lot of trades.  There are some intriguing free agents.  Maybe the Orioles will surprise me, but I doubt it.  Does anyone else feel this way?

The Orioles have more money to spend this offseason than they have in a little while.  I think we'll be a bit more active than usual, and we may even sign a pitcher or two BEFORE February!!!!!   I know, that feels wrong, but i'm calling it now.

We're not getting someone like Darvish or Arrieta but we might get a middle tier FA or two which for us I guess passes as an 'exciting' offseason.

It feels a little hopeless to me too, but for completely different reasons.  The Orioles unwillingness to sell is risking sending the team into years of irrelevance.  The farm system is in the best shape in years, and the team is in a great position to reload quickly (not as good of a position as they were before 2017 but still).

No reason to feel hopeless.    I’m sure like almost every other offseason, the O’s will bide their time and people will start threads gnashing their teeth every time a good FA pitcher goes off the board, but I’m pretty immune to that by now.   There are plenty of opportunities to get better.

Hey, look on the bright side, Encinca is reporting that the Orioles have reached out to Tillman and Miley about returning! /s

I get wanting to give Tillman a low cost, incentive filled contract. Why bother with Miley again? Oh that's right, I forgot, we just gotta have that lefty...smh

They should be selling since unless they pay big bucks they have no chance at catching the Yanks or Sox. A couple "midling" pitchers will not cut it.

We don't know that yet.   Some O's players performed below their career avg last season.   If we get good results this year from the O's existing players, Bundy and Gausman step forward and the O's pick some good middle and back of the rotation talent then the O's will be contenders.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the coin, Schoop and Mancini are likely to regress.

Of course I do. It's way early but I don't expect DD to do anything significant. It will be the same as usual. Lower level pitchers that DD thinks are stars. Same old crap moves.

Exactly.  The myopia of the organization is what has me hopeless these days.
