Not a great look there Bryce

Since it is the random thought thread The pic on the left reminds me of when Hardy, Reynolds and a few other guys went to a Ravens preseason game in 2012 and the crowd went nuts when they saw them on the jumbotron.  What a season that was

One of the crappiest things about this season is that...if I turn on the game after it's started and the Orioles are up, I can't figure out what part of the batting order they're in.  Like if Mancini is hitting, he could be batting leadoff, or 7th.  Schoop could be 2nd, he could also be 6th. If it's Trumbo, I feel like he''s probably 4th.  Our lineup is just a murky mess at all times with no discernible shape or rhyme or reason to it.

I read yesterday that Palmer only had 13 double digit strikeout games in his entire career.

I just counted, Nolan Ryan had 17 double digit strikeout games in 1972 alone.

Goes to show you how amazing the Orioles defense was during Palmer's peak years.  I'm hopeful that the Orioles will focus on defense in the very near future.

In a strike-shortened season, to boot.

Is it me or does Caleb Joseph's bat look extremely thin?  It almost looks like an extended wiffle ball bat.  I think he should try a thicker bat to increase his chances of making contact.

Perhaps some type of large paddle?

    • Assuming we make the playoffs - and Fangraphs assures me it is still 98.8% certain - do we deserve a champagne-and-goggles celebration this year? Feels like instead they should be making a group apology to the fans for making it close.
    • I'm surprised that with the pitching injuries and issues that the Orioles had, we didn't see more guys from Bowie get moved up to Norfolk to atleast check them out. Heid and Roth (who did deal with an injury in July that impacted him for a few weeks) could have gone to Norfolk for the last month. Loon, if he wasn't injured, could be in place to be there next season.
    • Correct.  We'd be way better off if half those guys were in the lineup.   But yeah, let's fire Hyde.
    • At this stage, I don't care how we get in - just get in. As been said on here a zillion times, the playoffs are a crap shoot. As bad as it seems right now - WHY NOT?
    • Oh, I forgot Mountcastle.  He had a 2.2 bWAR season going (1.4 oWAR). And he's effectively been replaced with O'Hearn who is a 1.3 bWAR player (which has been dropping) of which he has a -1.4 dWAR and a 1.8 oWAR. So there's a net negative there, too, going from O'Hearn part time to him FT and losing Mounty's bat. Injuries are a part of any given team, but I don't think it's unfair to say this team would be at 88-89 wins with even half of those guys back.
    • While agree that taking this year's Santander out of the offense would hurt. This is the only year that he has performed at this level. He's OPS is 37 points higher this year, than his avg. His OBP stinks and he goes cold for fairly long periods. He's had a couple of heaters that have padded his OPS. His career OPS+ is 114 and that is buoyed by this years 132. I am not saying he sucks or is even at a replacement level player. But he is a pretty flawed player who is not likely to repeat this year which has been pretty flawed as well. I like Santander and I think he provides valuable leadership. I just don't see him having the value that it will take to keep him. I also don't think he is the type of player that ages well.
    • You really should have to finish in first place to make the playoffs. If the divisions were large from back in the day then I could understand having 2nd place teams make it. It was such an accomplishment back then. We can all agree 3rd place teams making it is a joke.
