Davis is about to pass Ripken for the club strikeout record

Pretty much every guy on the Orioles top 10 in strikeouts is an Oriole HOFer.   By the way, Adam Jones is 3rd on the list and only 89 behind Cal himself.   He’ll probably fall a couple dozen short of passing Cal before he’s traded or becomes a free agent, but he’s had only slight more than half the number of plate appearances Cal had in an Oriole uniform.

Pitch Jones low and away and his numbers will continue to rise.
As to the top 10,  Davis strikeouts are way more frequent than the rest of the list, but that should be Captain Obvious to note.

BJ was a better player than Davis.

He was, but also a different type of player in a lower strike out era.

For example, I think of Nick Markakis (32.6 rWAR) as a pretty similar player to Surhoff (34.4).  But Nick has struck out 270 more times in about 750 fewer plate appearances.   Pitchers throw harder today and strikeout rates are much higher.
