The 'Boy Was I Wrong!' Thread

Well then, if you don't care, then you probably should stop saying "It's nowhere close." ;)

The fact that he lost the job is the most compelling info. Everything else is fairly irrelevant IMO.

And it wouldn't mean all that much to you? To me, that would prove that he's probably not a good catcher, but that's just me.

I'm out of guesses.

Well, what you said certainly seemed like spinning or inability to grasp a concept, so apparently we're both deceiving one another.

And you wouldn't know, which is why I was clarifying for ya.

Will do.

As far as I know, neither of us know the circumstances to why he stopped catching for a month or so. So that does matter imo.

I never thought he was a good defensive catcher, mostly due to his arm, just thought he was decent enough considering his bat would likely be a lot better than what we had.

What exactly am I spinning or misunderstanding? I didn't say you thought House's mentoring was detrimental.

So the House part wasn't gloating? And I'm perfectly fine with people gloating about things that they argued about in the past, so that's not ripping you.

I could have sworn I remember reading an article saying that they were deciding that he wasn't right for the job or something like that. I could've sworn. I'm currently searching for it, but to no avail. I'll let you know if I find it, but I'm almost positive.

Which is where I disagreed, I could post my updated numbers on the situation, but like you said, it kind of doesn't really matter anymore.

When you asked me if it was OK for House to be mentoring pitchers in AAA, that's what I interpreted it as.

To me, gloating means too much of stuffing it in peoples' faces, which was not my intent. I was more bringing it up because being the anti-House guy was what I became known for. My intention was definitely not to rub it in anyone's face.

Fair enough. Just so you know, I do respect your opinions on here, even this one on House, and you certainly put a lot of work into that topic and others, so you're very good to have around here, it's too bad you don't post more often. Have a good evening.

Thanks bro, like I said, the more frequent posters (like yourself), I appreciate so much the dedication of keeping Orioles talk going so I'm able to get the rundown on everything, it has helped me become more informed as an Orioles fan than ever before. Please keep up the good work, and if I ever do become a more frequent poster, I definitely look forward to having more discussions with you. Always a pleasure, keep up the good work. Hope everything's alright with you in SoCal with the earthquake today.

Others have likely said this, but I thought Bedard, Loewen, and Cabrera, under Mazzone, would rival Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz's dominance.

I thought Luis Hernandez would do a serviceable job at SS.

I thought the acquisition of Eric Byrnes would give the O's a solid outfielder for years to come.

I thought trading for Sosa was a tremendous move and enough to push the O's toward the top of the East.

A few more names: Brad Pennington; Jeffrey Hammonds; Kurt Ainsworth; Jorge Julio!!; and Kris Benson--all of whom have been covered in detail

Boy, was I ever wrong.

    • Where are you getting your stats from that's not correct looking at OPS.
    • On the O's this year, Martinez would have been: 5th in OPS 5th in AVG 6th in HRs in 120 games
    • I think PFF is grading Roquan badly because the safeties behind him are playing like ass and it's making him look bad.  If teams are going to attack him over the middle on crossing routes with WRs (like KC did with Rice) he doesn't really stand much of a chance if the safeties behind him don't throw him a bone.  He's still a huge help in the run game.   In general I think PFF assigns a little too much blame to linebackers on passes over the middle, so unless you're an elite coverage guy at LB it's really hard to grade well.  The flip side to this is that teams probably need to adjust their coverage areas to account for the fact that LBs aren't going to be able to hold down WRs for long.
    • Thanks. This tells me what my eyes have seen with Roquan. He's been a liability in coverage and the fact that Simpson is ahead of him is not good for our defensive leader. Do you have the PFF grades for offense too?
    • What you want is perfectly reasonable.  But you seem entirely to focused on money.  The team needs to work to improve.  I don't care what it costs, you shouldn't either.  They are going to spend money and payroll will be higher next year and the year after that.  We need them to make improvements and some of that is rightfully going to come from within and not cost much. The improvements that are needed are going to cost too, I'm not saying they wont.  But ownership and the GM should simply work in tandem to make sure the team has what it needs.  I am not really concerned about how much that costs because it should be able to be done without jumping this particular team into say top ten in payroll.
    • This is the right approach. the orioles should be spending more money and I believe they will, but I expect it to be measured with less risk (ie we won’t be handing out a Hader type deal or a  long term contract to Santander IMO) improving on some of the obvious weaknesses certainly makes sense.    1x SP: Burnes, Fried, Buehler 1x RH OF/DH: Martinez, O’Neill, Profar 1x 1B: (wishlist) Alonso, Walker
