What does "barring a sudden change of heart" mean? Dexter Fowler all over again...

Wouldn't worry too much on that. Probably just means he hasnt officially signed yet but that's the plan.

Awesome! He was my first choice because he’s been in a franchise that was in poor shape but has become a success.

Yep, saw it and was a part of it from the get go.

Seriously a fantastic hire. Was going to go into deep depression if Colletti was the guy, unless he had someone with him like Elias.

I’m not too surprised tbh. John and Louis seem to be different than their father Peter in how they approach baseball. Now I’m curious about who he hires as a manager and other stuff. I’m pretty excited about this. This may take time but I think Elias could start a strong foundation that will should we become contenders in his tenure not digress to where we are now and I agree about Coletti. Way too old school a hire.

Yeah, this place has been in shambles because we haven't gotten a lot of leaks and it's taken a bit, but with this hire it makes that all WELL worth it.

Also, with a hire like Elias, this clearly shows a massive shift in the way this organization will be run and he was likely assured a blank canvas to do what he wants with the organization. There's no way an assistant GM for one of the best run analytical baseball clubs would take a job like our's without assurances that there wouldn't be meddling/someone over his shoulder.

Ok, is there going to be two hires?  Or just Elias as the GM?

So no President of Baseball Ops?

Sure sounds like Elias is the head man running the show. Wouldn't be surprised if we saw one of those guys from the MLB come in with some sort of role pending on what Elias thinks though.

    • He was put in a "mop up" situation and he "mopped." Not going to extrapolate too much cause of the length of time off between pitching, the new routine, and the game situation. He did what he had to do. Then along came Baumann
    • If ANYONE says the that the 2024 Orioles are "worst" they literally know less than ZERO about baseball and their opinion should be immediately discarded here  🗑
    • Didn't really get much hard contact so I see no reason to complain or worry about him right now. The Red are a swing-happy team that made a TON of quick outs all series and Suarez did the right thing and threw his fastball for contact. Certainly looked a lot better than Baumann did.
    • I feel like Adley is the glue for this team. Others can overshadow him a bit, but the winning started when he showed up and he feels like the type of guy that doesn’t need the recognition.  His skillset pairs well with this. Solid defense. Great approach at the plate. Nothing crazy flashy but absolutely essential. A quietly, insanely productive player.
    • Suarez reminds me a bit of Keith Foulke with that FB/CH combo. Even more effective with the FB at 96. I am really interested to see how he moves up the hierarchy. Really scares me to have playoff games coming down to a 34 year old project from the Japanese league but he has been impressive.
    • Is there ANYTHING that the Orioles can realistically do to put them in a position where they won't be supreme title contenders next, the year, the year after that one? There is no 'desperate' move to make when you have this much excess prospect capital/talent. Why would we not be willing to part with any of that excess in order to increase our chances to have a parade in the fall ("after we haven't sniffed a title in 40 years")? Do you not agree that we have more positional player prospects that we could ever use?
    • Trevor Williams and Mitchell Parker both have held opposing batters to ZERO home runs in their first 50 innings of the year, and helped by that have shiny ERA's in the 2.25-2.50 range. They go against Corbin Burnes and Kyle Bradish. Parker rates pretty high on the anonymous left-handed starting pitcher scale. Forecast looks like tomorrow an 80 degree day and Wednesday flirting with 90. I'll guess the clean HR slate doesn't make it. Luis Garcia looks very hot.   He and CJ Abrams do seem in good position to be some of Orioles middle infielders closer competition over the long term.
