I should have put a qualifier in there. I think he could be a valid left-handed bat off the bench for teams. I have no idea if anyone has a need. If he could play any position even remotely decently, then he would be an interesting pinch hitter option in the NL. But the lack of a position definitely limits who might want him. But he looked pretty good in very limited time last year and has had some very nice at bats this year. I think he can still hit ML pitching. 

 

p.s. But you are probably right...if I had to bet money on it I would bet he ends up in Norfolk.

The time to deal with it is now. Continuing to "hope" he figures it out is demoralizing to the team. You cannot look at any part of his game and say... yeah.... that's something we can work with.

Being a good GM/Manager means making the tough call. As I mentioned before... you need to talk to him, send him down and get back to basics...but to continue this any longer is an error of epic proportions. Especially if it means by keeping him that you make a decision to lose someone who is producing....

I'm not so sure about this. In one at bat he watched three meatballs right down the middle. Then in his last at bat, he was bent on bunting. But you could read his body language. He is mentally lost. Something is going on in his mind. It is crazy. Can you DL for mental "injuries"?

I think Pedro gets claimed by someone.  Currently he has the highest OBP and SLG on the team.  He's among the lowest among of at bats, but that's because of Davis.  He certainly could get a lot more against righties.

Thank you. And I want to be clear that I am not trying to in any way be "mean" spirited here. I sincerely think something is going on with him mentally.

The past three seasons the O's picked Pedro up during ST.  Last year he had the option to opt out, he didn't.  I think it is safe to assume he would have if another team had been interested.

Teams, other than the Orioles, don't value platoon only DH types.

I totally agree. You can't let one guy's issues destroy an entire season. If they handle it properly, it could not only help Chris, but the entire team. It will demoralize the team if it continues. This will have to be an organizational decision, not merely a managerial or GM one. One can only wonder what type of trouble this is causing in Chris' personal life as well.

Need to give Davis at least 125 PA's before kicking him to the curb

However I have already predicted that he won't hit > .200 this year and will be DFA'd in 2019

I'd really like to here a report on what he looks like in batting practice. Does he still drive the ball in BP or is his reduction in BS so drastic that he has warning track BP power?

I'd trade 1 home run for 3 all day. 

If I'm the Yankees I'm scared of Judge, too. 40+ homer seasons just don't repeat in today's game all that often. See: Davis, Trumbo.

Nope, but it does provide some comic relief that the MFY have a Davis type issue on their hands right now.

and yeah I'd take Stanton over Davis every day.

      The O's would have Crochet thru 2026.  They could also give him the Gray Rod rest treatment and then pitch him out of the pen until September.

      I mean this take is fairly reasonable and I sympathize with your frustration in this discussion. He's not putting up superhuman numbers. He's putting up good numbers that are trending up, and factoring in his age and position, it's pretty exciting. But like Frobby said, he's not untouchable, it's just that it seems unlikely there's a trade fit for him because it would cost the other team someone equally as exciting, with years of control, and who is ML ready. Those guys just don't exist much on the trade market.

      I hear you but everything seems kind of moot if Crochet and his agent want him on an innings limit. Even if they don't, I doubt Elias would throw caution to the wind like that and abuse the guy's arm. So it seems unlikely Elias would give the White Sox SP-level prospects for a guy they'd be forced to use in the bullpen.

      I'm thinking there is a good chance Elias makes a strong play for Crochet.  Hear me out before I get drowned out in a chorus of boos.  It seems that Westburg, Mayo, and Holliday can not co exist on the same team.  Too many bodies not enough positions.  That's not even accounting for Basallo (is he more of a 1B/DH) and Kjerstad (same).  Imo, it's better to solve the backlog of prospects before it becomes obvious and the O's hand is forced and the O's have to accept supoptimal value.  There's this little problem of the O's very obvious lack of pitching depth.  O's #1 is Burnes, #2 is Gray Rod, #3 is ??, #4 is ??, #5 is ??.  Yeah I know Suarez, Povich, Irvin and probably Kremer go in there but that's not really a desirable mix.  Crochet pitched another strong 7 innings with 11 K's last night.  He only threw 88 pitches.   His stuff is off the charts.  Statcast has more red than a Freddy Krugger movie.  Makes the O's rotation probably the best in a short series and one of the best in a longer series.  I know Elias is losing sleep over getting this kind of elite talent.  I keep thinking it's better to get a lesser pitcher  and keep the prospects but then I think the goal is winning and as someone said "there is no way the O's can ruin the farm in one deal".  It doesn't matter what I think, is Elias making a bet on this year and trading a guy he thinks he might not have a position for?

      Ugh. I DID. lol. The only reason I even looked at 2 weeks in the first place was because another poster took issue with me referencing his 2024 stat line. So many of you want to argue simply for the sake of arguing....gets pretty nutty.
