I'm always of the opinion that consistent ABs is great for a player.  It's been a few years, but Broxton's had a decent offensive season- it's a lot of power but a lot of strikeouts though.  At the very least, it's a legitimate centerfielder, and he won't be much worse than Rickard with the bat.....provided he has those consistent ABs I'm talking about.  

He did hit 20 homers one year.  Maybe they feel that there's something they can do with his swing.

I think it is mostly that he's cheap and a good center fielder.

I think the O's are looking at him as more of Rickard's replacement than a long term CF option.  I would hope so anyway.

I think they were looking for a way to play an actual center fielder in center field.
