But you are willing to believe that some of those couple hundreds of thousands of dollar might be misreported. Right? I've run into that in past season recaps.

That’s a good point.  I read somewhere that Mayo’s bonus is actually more like $1.775M, and Baumler’s was only estimated to be “around” $1.5M, so his could be a little higher as well.  I’m guessing Servideo signs for right around slot and the savings leftover from Kjerstad will go toward the Mayo & Baumler bonuses, but we need to see the final numbers once the deals are officially announced before we just assume the O’s are saving $300k on the draft as a whole.

All right, now that everybody is signing with their respective teams, or not, how many interesting guys are going back to school and will try again next year?

We are probably still going to have a top five pick, I’m thinking.

Would it have made more sense to pay $300k more on a player they liked less?  Of course not, but it would seem to have eliminated your criticism.

Btw, I have zero doubt you (C_o_c) want the team to be successful.  You're a great fan.

Maaaaaan, I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy.

I think the counter to this is, did they pass on a talent higher on their board because they wanted to save money?

We are still run by the Angelos family and they still are terrible owners, even if the sons are a little better than their old man.

Its obvious Elias wanted someone who he felt would fall, like Blitsko, and it didn’t work out.  And if he got guys he truly wanted, great.  But if he passed on a guy like Wilcox or Jared Kelley so that the Angelos family didn’t have to spend that extra money, I have an issue with that.

We probably will never know but it’s certainly reasonable to assume imo.

I think it's far too early to declare that the sons are better owners than Peter was.

With a .600 OBA!?

And .780 slugging?

Nope.

I'm just saying with a full season, his numbers COULD have slipped. Or maybe he suffers a major injury. He was easily #1 on my board based on what we know. And I agree, he was still a good bet to remain there with a full season. But crazy things can happen

Well, the international FA aspect of things is way better. They are also allowing Elias to bring the organization into the right decade as far as scouting, development, etc...those things alone make them way better than their father.

I bet there is an Oriole fan out there that believes that Kjerstad was at the top of the board.  Now that I stop and think I'll admit I don't think you are that fan, but I'm sure they exist.

There are also Oriole fans who think that the Illuminati are running a zoo of Sasquatch in the Warehouse to mine their pituitary glands for performance enhancing secretions.  Takes all kinds.

I couldn’t care less.    Save the money and spend it on some more Rapsodo machines or whatever.   It’s the performance of these players that will determine if we spent our draft allotment well, not whether we spent every last dime allotted.

Or, go find 20 more guys to sign for $20 k each.

And quibbling over a couple hundred k on a 14 million budget is not interesting to me.

No. They are definitely better.  They couldn't possibly be worse and it's clear they aren't as bad.

It will take time to see the true colors of the sons. But, How can it possibly be worse than Peter was isn't really saying much!

Peter looked pretty good at first too with hiring Gillick and Davey, Camden Yards full, and a consistent top 5 payroll. Then he decided he was the smartest man in the room. The direction so far is positive but time will tell.
