Respect to Milone. 5 IP, and all he gave up was a solo dinger to a guy who looks like he could do that against any pitcher in baseball right now.

I won't expect him to go 6, but would be delighted if they try it, with a guy warming in the pen just in case.

I agree completely, I was worried that he was losing it at the beginning of this inning, but he came back and got out of the inning. However we should have A replacement ready.

I don't think Brandon Hyde would tank a game on purpose if his family was being held hostage.

I agree. But I think he would play Chris Davis if ordered by Angelos. It's not like he made a typo in the roster and meant to play someone else; he played Davis on purpose.

I don’t think he wants to lose, But playing Davis is not a winning move. It’s possible he’s being forced to do so, but he is doing so, and if I were him I would be screaming at management every single day. Even if winning isn’t the issue there’s still no reason to play Davis, because his at bats and playing time should go to one of our future pieces. Give him his money and send him home.

The only reason I ever defend playing him... IF he's ever going to help at all, you have to play him some to keep him sharp to ML pitching. They're not going to release him, and can't send him down so you have to keep him ML ready at least. MINIMUM ABs but he has to get a few.

But he isn't ever going to help at all.

I mean, how much worse can a guy look up there?

I know. and with a 28 man roster you could sit him indefinitely... Hyde may have a directive to at least play him some. Or just plain showing a vet a little respect. Right or wrong...

This really smells like a sunk cost fallacy to me. Not you; I mean, if the Angelos family and Elias feel that they can't release him because of the money they're paying him, it's an instance of the sunk cost fallacy.

They're paying him, one way or another. That's just reality. But why on Earth would you pay someone to have a negative WAR? Why wouldn't you want to put the best possible product on the field?

There's like, a 0.0000000000001% chance that Davis will ever be replacement-level or better again, unless he's allowed to take PEDs with impunity, or does exactly that and doesn't get caught.

Because of my point of view of the type of person/ballplayer (as in a TEAM FIRST GUY) I thought Chris Davis was ..... Put me in the room with management and Davis and I walk up to Davis and say "I see you as a team first guy" and leave the room .

    • It’s not hard to diagnose the Yankees’ problem - they’ve allowed 6.5 runs per game in that 20-game stretch.  Some Yankee ERA’s in that span: Cole 6.75 in 4 starts, Stroman 6.43 in 4 starts, Rodon 10.89 in 4 starts, Gil 9.37 in 4 starts.   Cortes (2.70 in 4 starts) is the only member of their rotation who’s producing.   Meanwhile in the pen you have Clay (the All-Star) Holmes at 9.00 ERA, Caleb Ferguson 9.53, Phil Bickford 14.40, Ron Marinaccio 6.75, Victor Gonzalez  9.82.    And people think the Orioles have pitching problems? The offense basically has been fine at 4.75 runs/game in this stretch, down a bit but nothing dramatic.   Struggling guys include Gleyber Torres (.620 OPS), DJ LeMahieu (.521), Alex Verdugo (.495) and Anthony Volpe (.473).
    • Of course if you can buy low in Luzardo you do it, but I doubt Miami has any intention of doing that.  The Orioles also need help now, not someone on the IL so I think their focus will be elsewhere.
    • We will be fine and Elias is negotiating. I personally like the idea of calling the Reds for Lodolo or Greene. Reasoning behind it is you could include Mountcastle and maybe Hays/Stowers. They need big league offense fast and Mounty would go in as there second best hitter immediately.
    • I have a hard time believing Miami takes that deal.
    • @Can_of_Corn has provided the most level-headed reactions and perspective in this otherwise  over-reactionary thread.  @ Frobby as well, to a lesser extent. I looked at the AL roster.....it is stacked....with deserving ALL Stars, and I really can't make an overwhelming case for anyone to come off of the AL Roster in favor of an Oriole.  And, for the record, I love watching Orioles play in the All Star game as much as anyone else.    And, just because we have one of the best teams does not necessarily mean that we somehow have the most All Stars.....it could mean that, but it doesn't have to. Let's be happy we have a lot of really good players.  Remember the year our only All Star rep was Ty Wigginton?  Let's be happy folks.......there's enough in this world to get upset about, and this ain't one of them.
    • The O's went 18-12 in that brutal stretch, then immediately went on a 6-game west coast swing where they went 4-2. Impressive. Do other teams have any 30 games in 31 days stretches in their schedule?
    • Kind of frustrating how well Boston has played this year given expectations. And they always seem to have a good farm.
