Or Pedro. And I like Pedro but his value is zero currently. Can’t play the field. He was even awful at 1b in ST.

People can hate all they want but I think he   will be much better than you think. Time will tell.

No hate...just not wearing the Ryan colored love glasses.   His skills have not magically become what they never were before.  I will take Valencia any day.

Ryan always struck me as a nice guy who genuinely seemed proud to be an Oriole. His talent may not have always matched his enthusiasm, but I don't look back at Flaherty with any negativity. He was a utility player who could be plugged in almost anywhere. 

I've shared a few journalist's tweets about his hot start, but obviously it is partly in jest. He's going to come back to reality, but I'm happy to see the guy have success, even in spurts. At the end of the day, he was a major league ball player, not an elite one, but he was there and contributed. It's more than I can say about myself. I hope he and Markakis have success in Atlanta.

I liked Flash you know if Buck had any say he would be and Oriole right now.

My personal goal for the team for April: get back to .500. Don’t let March 31 be the last time the team sniffs .500 this year. If we don’t get back to .500 in April, we won’t make it to .500 at all this year, since the team habitually limps into the end of the season due to lack of effort and conditioning.

The part of baseball I like the most/least is April.  Because it's so hard to tell what people mean when they talk about 31-year-old .219 hitters going 8-for-their-first-16.  Do they mean that this is an almost miraculous, divinely inspired change in their ability and they've somehow gone from barely passable to highly productive at an advanced age?  Or are they just remarking how cool it is that something with a 21% chance of happening can sometimes occur 50% of the time if you give it enough four game trials?

What?  This is such a typical internet chat room response.  Flaherty was exactly what the Os needed for years.  And, oh, by the way, he actually showed up when he made appearances in the playoffs.... hitting a respectable .281 / .830 ops.

Why crap on the guy like he was roadkill?

This just isn't remotely true.  Last year was the 1st time under Buck Showalter that you could say the Orioles "limped" into the end of the season.  They either been at .500 or above .500 (several times well above .500) in September/October every other year.  To say this team has a lack of effort or conditioning has no support logically.

I would also disagree that if they don't get to .500 in April they never will.  They have an extremely difficult schedule in April.  I would like them to just not get buried.  The schedule eventually will soften a bit, and the team will eventually even score some runs off of starting pitchers.  Maybe not tonight with Verlander though :eek:

      Astros admit it is a knee sprain for Yordan and he is out the Mariners series, with hoped for return at the Guardians Friday. He will play the playoffs and I guess benefit from that infielders on the dirt rule, as otherwise defenses might have been able to put all of them well on to the grass like Pujols at the end. Mariners got the must opener with "just" Bryce Miller - now they have Logan Gilbert and George Kirby tonight and tomorrow afternoon against Yordan-free lineups to try and make the weekend interesting.

      I think a lot of fans frustration (well, at least mine) comes from a combination of this specific team and history.  This 2024 team has been extremely frustrating.  It is factually true that in the last 106 games they have only one walk-off win and only two wins when trailing after 6 innings. They have no series wins against an over .500 team since July 4th, and the worst record in the AL East since June 20. They cannot put together any long winning streaks, they have a real hard time generating a "big" inning, their all-star catcher has had an extremely disappointing second half, and their prized rookies have been far worse than anyone could have imagined.  So this has been without question a three-month plus malaise that feels like it just won't end.  Every time we want to feel enthusiastic or excited, we get shut down by a punch in the gut like Saturday and Sunday. The injuries have undoubtedly played a role, but I don't buy that they should have played this much of a role. Especially not on offense. The history part of it does not relate to the current team, but is a real pain point for fans like me who have been around for decades.  This organization last won an LCS game on October 13, 1997.  Almost 27 years since their last single game win in the LCS. Think about that and how much life has passed since that time.  Over those 27 years, 22 different fanbases have experienced their team in the World Series at least once.  If we go back to the last time the Orioles won the pennant, we can add another 4 fanbases to the list of World Series participants.  I think a 3 game sweep in last year's playoffs hurts us far more than it would Red Sox fans or Cardinals fans or Dodgers fans who are there regularly.  We have far fewer bites at the apple than most other fans, and every opportunity lost just resonates that much more.   No one should ever think the Orioles fans are spoiled, regardless of how much we may complain.  We are among the least spoiled fanbases not only in baseball, but in all of professional sports.

      He's absolutely right, but of course, anything prior to the 2023 sweep means nothing to this current squad.  Last year we got a glimpse into this team with pressure. We all, including me, pointed towards their inexperience, but now we have a 2nd half of a season with mostly the same players wilting under pressure. Whether that pressure be because of the game situation, expectations, trying to do too much with other players out, or whatever, we have another data point of this current team struggling when it matters. Now, barring a complete a total collapse by the Orioles over the last two series of the year (not out of the question but the that the Royals and Twins are crashing too make it almost assured this team will back into the playoffs), this team is going to the playoffs. This will be the real test because gone are the excuses of injury with Westburg, Urias, Coulombe and Webb back and the team will most likely face another struggling wild card team. That should give some hope that this team will win at least a game, and maybe a series if things go right.  Crazier things have happened before in the playoffs, but only a miracle World Series appearance would be able to overcome this frustrating season and end the discussion over the lack of clutch of this core group of players.
