Rich Dubroff laments Nick's non-inclusion on any All-Star team:

"In his 12 years in the majors, Markakis has hit more than 20 home runs, driven in more than 100 runs and batted .300 or better just twice each, but he never hit below .271.

Markakis is 17 hits away from 2,000 and stands 11th among active players on the hits list. Markakis is the only player in the active top 30 on the list who's never played in an All-Star Game.

Markakis was sorry to leave the Orioles and maintains a home in the area. He also has family ties with the team. His sister-in-law married infielder Ryan Flaherty last December.

As an Oriole, Markakis was a fan favorite and was held in high esteem by his teammates for his work ethic and lack of pretense."

Nice article.    It's interesting to consider that if Nick had been signed, we might still have Brault, Tarpley and Davies.

And really none the worse for wear IMO.  Perhaps not signing Trumbo also?

I loved the account recently when Nick had already left the building after reaching 2000 hits - not wanting the attention.  Any chance you will change your moniker to NMarky?

We also might not of had Trumbo last year....which of course led to Trumbo for three more years which makes your case even more. :)

Another Paul Folkemer report on our give aways - but no mention of Hader, who is just seeing SSS success in the MLB!

Drake_Oliver_09172016_79-1024x683.jpg

"The Orioles didn’t seem to have a role for Drake despite his presence on the Opening Day roster this year, but he’s found a home in the Brewers’ bullpen. Drake has already made 36 appearances for Milwaukee, more than he made in his parts of three seasons with the Orioles.

Drake has been flashing strikeout stuff, racking up 40 whiffs in 32 2/3 innings, but, so far, it’s translated to only a so-so 4.13 ERA for the Brewers."

That is somewhat reminiscent of when Mike Mussina had a perfect game against the Red Sox for 8.67 innings in September of 2001 before Carl Everett broke it up with a pinch-hit single.

In the postgame interview, Mussina was his usual aloof self, not embellishing in his outstanding feat of a complete game-shutout and near perfect game any more or any less than he had for any other regular season game that he had ever pitched in his career.

Captain Lew's still a Duck!

"Ford still fits in with the teammates you’ve never heard of — minus former major league pitchers David Aardsma and John Lannan — because his name was never supposed to be known.

Ford arrived at Texas A&M on an academic scholarship, and failed to make the team as a walk-on. He then transferred to three different schools, long believing his studies in computer science and engineering would prove more useful than his bat. Then, after becoming an All-American at Dallas Baptist, Ford was taken in the 12th round of the 1999 draft by the Red Sox, and broke into the majors as a 26-year-old in 2003."
