Our top prospects had the benefit of the Bowie camp in 2020, so it wasn't the lost year we tend to think of it as.

Right, but...thus far at least...that's how the Orioles have been handling it.  If 2020 was a "regular" year there's no doubt in my mind that DL Hall is at Norfolk, Rodriguez is at Bowie, Henderson is at Aberdeen, and others have similarly moved up.

Agreed. I don't really disagree with where they started out the season with these guys, but I hope they adapt and promote soon like the others are saying on this thread. I think they will.....it's obvious with some of these guys.

I agree with the names being mentioned here. Here’s a not so sexy suggestion....Mason McCoy. Release Ruiz and give McCoy a look at 2B. With Vavra and Jones getting closer to Baltimore, McCoy has a small window to play. I’m not suggesting he’ll turn into a tradeable asset, but he could settle into a utility role and the experience would be good for his development.

Following up on this. Wilkerson got the call over McCoy, which I'm not bent out of shape about. McCoy got his first start in LF today. He's now played 2B, SS, 3B, CF, and LF. Certainly looks like they have a utility role in mind for him, which makes a lot of sense. He's batting .320 after today.

Oops, sorry I was thinking we had an allum from the team having a good start to the season.

Can you tell I don't pay super close attention in May?

Lol. Just read through UMDTerrapins posts. Definitely following the minors closely. Good info.

Oh it's good, I've read it, I'm just not concentrating on it.  So I kinda read it and let it simmer in the background.

I read almost everything posted on OH that isn't from posters that I have on /ignore.

UMDTerrapins is in the running for minors MVP so far this year!

Thanks, I appreciate that! I went into the season way more excited for minor league games than major. Just so many good players to see for the first time. I really wanted to watch Knight's outing tonight specifically because he didn't fare well, but the video link is dead. So I watched Baumann and Smith's outings instead. For as much baseball as I've watched since the season began, I was feeling like I had little to no feel for scouting our defense. The simple reason is that I keep watching outings where our starters are striking out two hitters per inning. Bradish twice, Baumann, Smith, Hall, Knight. Our opponents aren't putting the ball in play enough to learn anything about our infielders. That's a pretty good problem to have! Anyhow, I'm soaking up as much as I can because my personal schedule is usually nutty and I know I won't be able tune in as much as I have these first few weeks. So I'm having fun passing along what I see while I can. Really want to see Brnovich, but none of his starts have been broadcast yet. Haven't see Rodriguez yet this year either....very excited for that. Mr. Elias has made our affiliates a lot of fun to watch. Can't wait until I can say the same thing about the parent club.

Happy to see some movement, but I’ll miss the inflated statistics. I assume Rodriguez, Henderson, Westburg will move up. Do you demote Ortiz/Hall to get them regular at-bats? Hall is finally starting to string together some hits.

Hall hit .350 with a .480 OBP last week.  And he has 6 stolen bases, not bad considering he’s only been on base  19 times.

Can't imagine they'd demote either one.   On the contrary you might see one of them move up a level to make room.

If the Ironbirds have Henderson, Westburg,  Ortiz and Hall they can play 2B/SS/3B/DH and rotate around.

    • I was hoping that would be this season, but he faded this second half. But even Gunnar not living up to his lofty expectation is still a good player with an .811 OPS.
    • Mike Elias simply can't offer Michael Baumann, Cristian Pache, Connor Norby and Kyle Stowers this kind of experience. Jack Flaherty was kind of Meh again, but hey, at least he isn't on Detroit for this weekend. It is a special player to get to watch.    He's reviving some of the Babe Ruth "he hits too brilliantly to let him pitch" stuff, but hombre is going to do whatever he wants to do, it is part of the deal.    It does seem pretty likely the SB to this scale are a 1-time deal with the legs getting the year off from the mound. I do have a baseball-y wish to see if he could be Ken Griffey, Jr. in center field if he tried.

    • Hopefully it will be like giving a blood transfusion to a sickly patient. Yes some players haven't played as well this season, but it's mainly the injuries that have taken it's toll. The lineup gets much better if Westburg, Urias and Mountcastle are back. No longer does Eloy have to play and Holliday can be platooned. Plus O'Hearn will absolutely not see at bats against LHP like he has been recently at times. Webb and Coulombe provide depth to make the bullpen postseason viable. And Coulombe can close games instead of Dominguez assuming he's back all the way.
    • Gunnar stands to improve on: fielding and stolen bases. I also think he’ll have a 1.000OPS season or two before he’s done.
    • Maybe they were going by Tony's reaction, not realizing that with the winning run on third there wasn't any point in running.
    • looks like some of y'all are gonna be pissed when we win 2 of 3 against Detroit, at least one in NY and 2 o 3 against Minn.  I'd be embarassed if I were some of you....projecting the apathy and misery in your own little lives onto our O's.  This is a F upped sport and a team with talent like this can turn on a dime and start winning consistently at any time.  This isn't over.  I you're mad that your life hasn't worked out well......please don't bring the rest of us down.
