I wonder if they'll jump Gunnar and/or Westburg straight to doulbeA, in terms of the inf logjam, that seems like where an opening is. The Aberdeen guys seem to be doing well, but not promotion well (Hall has been hot lately)

I think Ortiz moves up to Bowie.  He has been solid almost all year and that way you don’t rush a better prospect.

We are currently seeing some guys that are playing at a very high level and you can argue that some (or all) of the players I’m going to list should have started at a higher league anyway.

Tarrin Vavra:  He is 24 and was drafted out of college.  He has an OPs over 1200 right now.  You could argue he should have started in AAA but if he continues to play at a high level for another few weeks, get him to Norfolk (assuming you don’t try him in the majors at second base)

GRod:  Another guy who could/should have started a level higher.  His ERA is barely above 1, he has 23 Ks in 12 innings and you have to start to wonder how much he is gaining by being in Aberdeen if this keeps up.  He should get another 3 starts in A ball but if this level of performance continues (or something very similar), move him up.  I also like the idea of him being with Hall and especially Rutschman.

Henderson:  Henderson shouldn’t be in Delmarva and I don’t think he should have ever been there.  He is tearing the cover off the ball and with the log jam of SS at Delmarva, moving him up makes sense to me.  This is actually something I think they should be doing right now but if they want to wait a few weeks, so be it.

Westburg:  Like Henderson, I don’t think he should be in Delmarva. His OpS is over 1000 and while he had warts coming into this season, he is still a mature college player who may need to be challenged more. The issue with moving him up with Henderson is that you still have the logjam issue.  But, I also wouldn’t mind either going to AA.  Henderson performed well at the camp last year, so you can make the argument that he saw that level of competition already.  I would really like to see both of these guys playing SS everyday.  This would also open it up for Servideo to play SS everyday as well.

Who else do you think should be considered for an early promotion?

1 down..few more to go.

Vavra has cooled off, so he may stay.

Henderson and Westburg need to move on.

Joey Ortiz is a beast: Speed, great hands and power. I watched him at NM State and he has done nothing but improve his skills and increase his strength since then. I can't wait to see him compete at the upper levels.

Exciting stuff.  I don't know if any of these guys reach Baltimore next year but provided they do well in Bowie for the rest of the year they'll all be in Baltimore in 2022.  Next summer is looking to be a lot of fun.

Assuming we have a baseball season.

If they perform well and stay healthy. They will all be in Baltimore next year (and early) and some of them may be up here this year.

    • Damn I wish I was that guy
    • Crochet had a monstrous game tonight. 7 IP 2 H 1 ER 2 BB 13 Ks I would love to have him even if it meant moving him to the bullpen for the final stretch but someone is gonna drastically overpay for him with top of rotation potential and 2x additional seasons of club control.    assuming it starts with Mayo, Kjerstad, Povich etc
    • I would like to see the O's have more success drafting and developing their own pitchers under Elias.  But I must concede that so far Elias has an excellent track record of getting good young controllable pitching from other teams farm systems  (Bradish, Povich, McDermott, Cano) or the waiver wire (Suarez, Webb, Perez).   The development of these pitchers suggests that we have excellent coaching in the high minors and in the majors.  There's more than one way to skin a cat. At this point I don't see a need to trade farm system capital for a top-line starting pitcher like Luzardo.  If the season ended today I'd feel really good about going into a playoff series with Burnes, Rodriguez and Bradish as our big three starters.   I also see no point in getting Crochet midseason as he's not going to be able to carry a starters' load into October.  It's more likely that we trade for bullpen help now, and then address starting pitching in the offseason if Burnes moves on.
    • I would rather trade for Kikuchi than Luzardo. His FB has gotten hammered pretty much every year besides 2022 and he gets very few whiffs on it. His slider and changeup are both really good but he throws them less than 50% of the time combined. He could probably improve just by throwing those pitches more but not sure how successful he can truly be with that FB.
    • They made a conscious choice to not draft pitching, instead to let other teams, draft, pitching, and deal with the failures. I see their logic and I don’t disagree with it, but the flipside is that when you need pitching, you have to pay the going rate. And that’s something that Mike doesn’t seem to want to do.  And that’s a wee bit o’ trouble, it tis…
    • Let’s overpay a bit for Crotchett. No reason not to buy the best
