Cedric Mullins as a CF

Besides Mancini, has there been a better “comeback story” than Mullins? Brought up with all the hype, pushed out the dugout by Adam Jones to lead the team onto the field, then sent to the minors after struggling and going all the way to Bowie before being written off as an AAAA player, and now this.

Forget the trade - give him a five-year contract and build around him and Adley and company...

Probably not going to happen but if you could sign him for $60 million for 5 years it could turn out to be the bargain of the century.

It could also be a giant mistake.  He isn’t even arb eligible until 2023, why rush an extension for him?

You are right it could be a great signing or a big mistake.  That is what the GM gets paid to evaluate and trust what he is watching is real or not.  If Cedric had two seasons like this the contract price for 5 years probably goes up 50 to 75%.  The way he is hitting left handed pitching to me makes this more real than not.  He was never a bad hitter against right handed pitching but it didn't look like he could be an everyday player because of his right handed hitting.  It will be interesting to see if this causes other switch hitters to give it up.

It seems like fans get in a big hurry to trade people. Do something for the long-suffering fans and lock in some young players so we know who will be around after the rebuild, assuming the rebuild does eventually end.

Already did that.  He’s up to 75%.   He’s gone from 6-4 to 12-4 over the last month.

That's the one area of his game that could have used improvement and to Cedric's credit he gotten better at base stealing. Some of it might just be lack of experience running against MLB pitchers and catchers.

Cedric wasn't getting on base a whole lot the past couple years to even think about stealing a base. And now that's changing big time in 2021.

I have been one of these fans all year, but Mullins has really grown on me. I would really like to keep him and see what he can become. I don’t think what he is doing is a fluke at all and I love the idea of what he brings as a lead off guy once we are competitive.

I’m still on the on the fence about Means though (although I lean to keep him) and I think Mancini and Fry should be moved with Mancini brining back a nice package.
