A glimmer of hope on Kjerstad?

Outfielder Heston Kjerstad, the second-overall selection out of the University of Arkansas, had a recurrence of the symptoms related to myocarditis and couldn’t work out at the minor league complex. He hasn’t played in games, but the Orioles aren’t resigned to him staying inactive in 2021.

There’s optimism, however cautious, that he can begin baseball activities again later in the summer.

The most important thing is Kjerstad's health seems to be improving greatly enough that he might be able to resume his baseball career before the season is over.

This would be great to see. I know a lot of people are upset with the pick, but him playing this season would be really encouraging.

I’m just happy he’s doing better, regardless of whether he ever plays baseball again.

Just curious. Is Kjerstad prevented from all physical activity? Can he/does he play catch? Hit off a tee? Go to a batting range? (And maybe a degree more straining  than those, watch Oriole games ?)

I would assume Kjerstad is able to do some exercises or activities, otherwise they wouldn't be putting out word that he might start engaging in baseball activities before the year is over.

I was starting to think Kjerstad would recover from myocarditis, but have to retire from baseball. Just putting it out there Kjerstad might resume his baseball career indicates his health has improved, and that's more important than him living up to his first round billing.

It'd be nice to see for sure. 

Glad to hear he's recovering from myocarditis, though.  Obviously that's the most important thing, I hope the guy gets to live a healthy and complete life.

I read this earlier, I didnt take it as if they know he will soon resume activities, just hoping that he will.

Correct.  But better than reporting that they think he won’t be able to resume before season end.   

My guess is that at best he’d get in a limited number of at bats in the FCL and make it to Fall Instructs.  I do not expect him on a full season club at any point this year.

Cowser starting at Delmarva in a few weeks is the first time I’ve seen that reported.

Happy for Kjerstad.  At this point if plays that's just gravy.  Definitely good news that he is moving on a path that might get him on the field.

I don't see any reason why he would continue baseball activities this year with a life threatening illness.  The risk/reward just doesn't make sense.  If he has no recurring symptoms let's just aim for Spring 2022.

I'm sure that's all being monitored.

Exactly.  He can start "Baseball activities" at any time.  No reason to have an arbitrary date like spring training.

If he's healthy enough he can start.
